I need to get Sirius installed!!! Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to try to throw it in the center console and I'm going to try to run the antenna to either the back window porch or the front window porch and conceal all the wires and pray for good reception. Just curious if anyone has gone through this yet (I've searched and haven't seen anything).
When I picked my car up last week, the service dept told me they "couldn't swap out the Sirius receiver for teh XM because it would screw up the nav". I gave them one of these
I saw teh post on here from one of the dealers that said that it could be done, but I figured if they were incompetent enough to not get the right answer, I don't really want them ripping apart my car.
Any help / suggestions would be appreciated.

I was also in the same boat. Wanted Sirius, but dealer told me could not be done with the integrated XM traffic. I found this on another board.

What he basically did was install a Sirius Starbase in the ashtray. I followed suit and am extremely pleased with the result. The only differences between my install and his is that my antenna is mounted on the inside of the front windshield. It is a very small black antenna so it is almost invisible. The other difference is that my installer suggested we run wires into the armrest that are plugged into the AUX jacks as opposed to splicing them directly into the AUX wires. Now I can have my cake and eat it too. I have let my XM subscription lapse, however I did renew the live traffic. Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that XM and Sirius have now merged. This means that when it finally goes through (probably a year or so from now) you will have 2 devices (xm installed w/ nav, and seperate sirius install) that will do the exact same thing.

most likely bad advise. you will need a tuner and antaennae that can accommodate both services- which he doesn't have now. ther merger is a BUSINESS deal, not a TECHNOLOGY deal

Sirius and XM intend to merge. However, various government agencies (e.g. FCC, DOJ) still have to approve it. So, it's still TBD before we can conlude that they will be one company. But, as you said, it's probably a year or so from now.

I usually keep my used jimmies in my ashtray, but maybe I'll just start flinging them out the window or something?

Have you given XM a try? What have you got to lose, since you get a 3-month subscription for free? If after that time you find that you still want Sirius, then go for it.
If it was me, I would much rather have the factory unit than the aftermarket installation. They never look quite good enough, and don't integrate with the car's controls.
Also, as others have stated in this thread, XM and Sirius have announced their intent to merge. Yes, it needs to be blessed by the Feds, but if this does happen, you will definitely have two satellite radio units that will receive the essentially the same programming. XM and Sirius' intent is to merge program offerings, while they transition to one technology format.
Just my opinion.

I need me some Howard Stern and NFL radio!! That's the only reason. I can always do the internet until they merge, I guess.

XM doesn't have Stern. I'm guessing that's his reason, as it is mine, for needing to swap out his XM for Sirius.Originally Posted by Doody

Haiglee - Thanks for that link! I had been considering yanking out the XM unit and putting in the Nissan factory Sirius unit (based on da Mayor's posts), but seeing that StarBase install professionally concealled in the ashtray, I may do that instead.

That's what I'm thinking too -- that was a nice, clean install and its hidden in the tray. I was also thking of trying to stash it in the center console.Originally Posted by CodingDane

My reason for wanting to use the Sirius factory unit (replacing the XM) is I didn't want to have to mount my StarMate onto that beautiful new dash like I had in my old car. I also wanted to be able to control it with the car audio system, and not have to drag it out of the center console.
My StarMate wouldn't fit in the ashtray, but seeing that StarBase install (hadn't even thought of the StarBase), I think I could live with that. Plus, if I run the audio into the Aux inputs, I can dispense with the FM modulator, which I never liked.
This has some serious potential.
Okay, I've got to ask. What is so special about listening to Stern? I've never heard his show, so I don't know what this dire need is that some of you have for listening to him. Just curious.
