gas pump issues
#31
Kinda weird that it hasnt happened on any of the other cars I have ever owned all at the same gas stations. I am sure there are very creative ways to insert the nozzle that might cause it to work differently, but I typically just put the nozzle in, lock the handle, and watch my money funnel out of the bank account on the LCD's...
It is something specific to the car in combination with certain pumps. I will figure out a work-around, but it isn't just something we are all doing wrong.

The problem is twofold. As stated, the rollover valve where the filler neck/hose could be sticking. It's just a plastic ball that shuts the opening in case the car rolls over.
Second, look at the filler neck itself. If you notice it's not the same diameter all the way down to the tank. This was put there to help slow the gas down and help the vapor recovery built into the hose do its job.
Combine the check valve and the reduced diameter neck with the high flow of the pump and you get gas that backs up into the filler neck and popping the nozzle. Every manufacturer out there has TSB's on this.
The fix is to just slow down.

lovin the car tho... driving to work in bay area traffic, touching 90-100 ever so often... awesome.
the other day to punk kids with their tuned up civics challenged the G and I being a rather older guy was not sure at first if I should pick up the challenge or not, but then I just went for it... we raced for 3 miles up 101N - their cars were crying and the G majestically touched 120 without breaking a sweat and had more on tap before the punks just let off and were left in the proverbial dust.
thats also why i need to gas up weekly and this half tank thing means i need to gas up twice as often !!
