One thing to note on manual mode, the gear numbers are displayed on the LCD screen when you're shifting with the paddle or shifter. The DS and D modes don't. I wish Infiniti enabled gear number display on all modes.

If you don't want to shift manually either with the shifter or paddles, DS mode is a lot of fun.
Thanks for the explanation Shane. Onto the next question then:

Is there a difference between moving the shifter to the left as oppose to simply being in Drive and then engaging DS by using the paddles? (as oppose to moving the shifter to the left first).

Especially in DS mode. When I try to "left-paddle" from DS mode, it downshifts, which makes me cringe when I'm going too fast for the next gear down. So, instead, to get to manumatic mode I do a rapid "right-paddle..left-paddle".

If the gear number were displayed, neither would be necessary.

I mentioned a while back that was onel of my minor issues, I really wish there was a gear indicator while in D or DS. but so far I've found that when ever you put the car into DS it drops you 1 gear. so if your in drive and in 5th gear and want to get to 3rd, put the car in DS and downshift only once.

I know you really don't know for sure what gear D has you in, but as a general guide, D seems to put you in 5th gear any time your doing more then 40 mph, 20-40 mph is 4th gear.

shift down or up in D and the gear will be shown, just as it is in DS mode

If I am understanding your question correctly Daniel, yes there is a difference. If you engage DS mode by moving your shifter to the left, everything is done for you whether it being upshifting or downshifting. If you engage your paddles, you are in full manual mode meaning that it will hold whatever gear you are in until you shift again. (but it in MM it will downshift for you if you don't manually downshift yourself) Make sense?

Gear will be shown but only for a few seconds and then it displays D again.
