To answer your question, if I was only at 500 miles, no I wouldn't take it in. I'd wait until 3,000 miles.

I say pull out your dipstick, and check the oil yourself - if it's free & not too inconvenient for you, I say do it. I have to drive 40 miles to get to the dealer.

I'm getting my first change this weekend - got free oil changes for the next 2 years at the dealer. I hope it includes the whole shabang and not just the oil itself. My friend got the same "incentive" but he had to pay for the oil filter.

Does anyone know what kind of oil the dealer will be using? And if they add any additives?

Yes, take it in, if it's free. The first maintenance doesn't really include much. I got mine free. When I asked how much the normal oil change costs, the service manager told me, "Free!" I thought I heard him wrong. He said Infiniti's doing something like BMW. I am pretty sure Infiniti is not, but he kept saying that all I have to do is just give him a call, drop the car off for an hour, and they'll do all oil changes -- free of charge. Weird...

Just save the reciepts for the filters and log the service. The warranty will not be voided if you do it yourself.

+1. I was surprised to find the oil change instructions in the owner's manual. They wouldn't document the steps if you're not allowed to change your own oil.

I'd be worried about voiding the warranty as well. However I'm not sure of your states civil history, but having a monopoly on servicing in my area is verboten. Especially since it was stated instructions for oil changes are in the owners manual, just keep the receipts and do it yourself. Chances are you'll do a better job and take more care.

I think it just might be "first" oil change, as many dealerships across different Makes are offering first oil change for free, if not? I would like to know which dealership as well.

My first oil change at Serramonte is free. But he said "[The service manager] kept saying that all I have to do is just give him a call, drop the car off for an hour, and they'll do all oil changes -- free of charge."

all my oil changes are free of charge (and that is completely free, no filter charge or anything). my dealer is great. although they are going to charge me 50 bucks today for a tire rotation, kind of high i thought. i also thought it was included in the advantage plan i got when i purchased the car (the advantage plan was free though)

If you paid for the advantage plan then they are not free.
