Question About the Navi

Hi guys, just registered to the forum and I had a question regarding the navis on the 07 G sedan

How accurate is the navi when it comes to giving correct routes? Also, is the list of the points of interest good? Not sure if anyone has any experience, but how does Infiniti's navigation compare to Acura's navigation?

Thanks in advance

The navi is dead on accurate, we're talking measurments in inches, maybe 2 feet at most. When I pull into my parking lot at work I have a typical spot I park in, I set that point as my work location, and I drive right up to it, if I park 3 spots away it shows I'm slightly off my work location. You can set the sensitivity between 100 feet and 250 feet, so once you get within 250 feet, it assumes your there and gives you the alert you've reached your destination.

The points of interest and data is FANTASTIC. at my house I can do points of intetest/gas stations and there are 101 stations within a few miles even the smallest of gas stations I didn't know existed by me... I search for restaurants and it finds even the smallest mom & pop restaurants. I used Acura's about 2 years ago and it really only brought up the chain locations, Chili's, Friday's, Applebee's, and a few more expensive places that are Zagat rated.

For the most part, G side says their's is better, while Acura people think theirs is better. But on other forums where people are test driving both or owned a recent gen Acura seem to lean more toward the G because it's Hard drive based and has a much larger database of points of interest. And not to mention the birdseye view is the only way to go.

Just curious.....do you find the G's hard drive based Navi is quicker than the Acura's DVD based Navi?

Since our's is DVD based, where is the DVD located? Also, does anyone know how often an updated DVD comes out and how much it will be?

Actually, the G's Navi is hard drive based, not DVD based.

It's snappier, if that makes any sense. when you ask it to do something it reacts quickly. overally speed is probably negligible form my experience with the TL's. but the TL has these brief pauses/hang-ups which I guess is when it needs to spin up, seek and access the data. While the G's is 20-50 milliseconds, the TL is probably 1-3 seconds.

I find the G does not always give the best easiest routes. I am comparing this to my Garmin Streetpilot c330 GPS.
It will always get you there but not necessarily the quickest.
Don't get me wrong though, I am still glad I got the nav, but in ways my Garmin was better.

Gotcha. I assumed that DVD based Navi systems would be a tad slower due to it having to read off of a disc, but haven't had any personal experience with one. Thanks for the reply.

Curious, have you tried messing with the different routing methods: shortest, quickest, and forget the other?

Yes, I have tried all of the alternate routes.

I haven't noticed the G's nav being any faster than the DVD based nav in my last IS300. If the IS300s was slower, it was never slow enough that I noticed it anyways.

Thanks for the responses. Honestly, I'm a little torn between the TL Type-S and the G35 Journey or X (not a fan of the aluminum trim in the Sport) so nav might actually be something that makes or breaks my decision I've test driven all 3 and I must admit they are pretty close considering it'll be my daily driver. We'll see when June rolls around and my lease is up.

Thanks again!
