Wow, this is insightful. Those with AT are happier/more satisfied about the transmission than those without AT.

To those who are unhappy about the MT, what are the downsides of the G35s MT? How does it compare to other MT you have driven?

One thing off the bat that some people dislike with the 6MT is the vibrations in the shifter (directly connected to the gear box - no wire). I personally love it on my 04' coupe - gives me a more "connected" feel of the car.

If I did not have daily traffic jams to contend with I would have gotten a manual just for the fun of it.

I'm loving my AT so far. The DS mode in canyons downshifts for me while I'm entering a corner...without using my left foot I hated being stuck in traffic in LA with my WRX. Now I just set ICC and it speeds up / slows down as long as I don't go under 20mph. It's like first-gen autopilot.

Maybe those who voted UNHAPPY - can post what they don't like??

Just curious.

And if you don't own the car... maybe you shouldn't vote.

I have the 5AT... I thought the auto was a better match for this car. I think it does well most of the time.. Still can hesitate under certain conditions between shifts.. doesn't aways shift into the gear you want.. depending on conditions.. it might drop down 2 gears and choose to rev when you dont want it to. Not near the control you get with the manual.
For an auto.. its still makes the car more fun to drive than a regular slush box.
If the manual was smoother and didnt feel like the control for a rock crushing machine... I would have gave it more thought.. but I still prefer the automatic as it is a better fit for this type of car.. IMHO.

Do you mean that the 2007 G35s MT had to be replaced 3 times already?

Sorry to ask - but do you have a thread with the problems in your tranny ?? Don't recall seeing one in the 07 forum.

I feel like my G has 3 transmissions, not just one. Auto, Sport mode and (pseudo) Manual. How could you NOT love it!

Easy.. it still does not provide exacting control like the manual does. Read my post #23 in this thread

Thumbs up

This is my first AT and I love it, it's a blast to drive. I find that auto seems to be quite responsive and usually just leave it there, but when I'm in the mood for a little more spirited driving I will switch over to DS mode. I rarely use the MM mode but it can be fun at times.

I have test driven the AT of the G35 non-sport version. It felt just like the tiptronic AT in my VW Passat, which is excellent. What I really like to see is an Audi/VW type DSG (dual shift gear) transmission, a true manual without the clutch. I test drove a VW GTI with DSG, and wow, it was very sweet.

Alternatively, if the G35 has a stick shift that matches the Honda S2000, I'll take that too.

With the extra gearing on the 6MT versus 5 gears for AT, does it help lower the rpm in highway driving?

DSG = Direct shifting gearbox..

I too would like to hear what speed the manual is at doing 3K rpms
