3 Days Later.

So I picked up my new G on Saturday. I absolutely loved it. The drive was great, the interior was comfortable and classy, the nav system and tech features were fantastic. I put around 300 miles on it driving in a variety of traffic situations with no problems at all.

Then my wife and I started a road trip today and 1 hour into it the car starts freaking out. The nav screen blanks out, the instrument panel displays flash, and then everything comes back only totally messed up. The VDC is off, climate control out of our control, speedometer stuck at zero, odometer stuck at 3000 rpm, 5 or 6 warning lights are lit. Mechanically, everything seemed good, but electronically it was haywire. I pull off to the side of the road and try to turn the car off. Push the button once.....car stays on. Push it again....car stays on. Push it a few more times and hold it in and it finally shuts off except for the Nav. Push it one more time and everything is off. Start it up again and I see the tire pressure and key fob warning lights on. Eventually, they turn off again. Drive it another 10 miles and then it all happens again. Shut it down and drive it another 10-15 miles and get the same thing. Finally, I decide to turn around and drive right back home and to the dealer. On the way back I notice that the transmission isn't working properly either....the car is shifting late and rough.

Now I am stuck hoping that dealer can fix this sooner rather than later. I hope to hear something today. The behaviour seemed to be that of a computer resetting making me think its a loose connection (trying to be optimistic). I am guessing the transmission is electronically controlled by the same computer and that's why it was freaking out.

That nice "happy feeling" I had from buying a new car and enjoying it has turned into a pang of buyer's remorse.

Yikes, sounds like Gremlins got to your G. I hope that the dealer sorts everything out for you.

This sounds bizarre!
Please post back and let us know what the dealer says...
What a terrible new car experience. Not at all what I'm used to with a new Infiniti.
Where did you get your G and what dealer/service ctr are you using?

Wow -- sounds totally freaky - like a scene from a sci-fi movie or something.

Please do update us on what the diagnosis is.

Hopefully we won't get an "Electronics take over the G" TSB

There is a TCM (tranny control module) and a BCM (body control module) amongst other 'puters, but it sounds like one or both of those have failed.

If you're stuck then do a battery disconnect (negative terminal only) for a few hours to try to reset these faults until you can get to the dealer.

G/L with repairs... Those issues are really unlike the G....

Let us know what the dealer finds please.

C.

That is absolutely frightening...I wouldnt have even tried to drive it back to the dealer. I would've called roadside assistance or AAA and had them tow it back to the dealer.

Hope it was something that can be easily fixed and it all works out for you!!

Wow, a first one. Almost sound like the car was under one of those electric attacks...

Hope everything turns out well.

Not a good thing to happen on your 3rd day of ownership. Hopefully it's a minor problem and it will be fixed quickly.

could be that the dealer passed their problems onto unsuspecting You
Kinda like u hear they mess up a bumper and just slap some paint back on it till a buyer takes it off their hands.
I would definetely get a report from third party after they "fixed" your car.
wow that suck for third day. if that happen to me when i got my 05, i'd storm in ***** at the dealership and demand compensation.

That's a first. I've never heard of an odometer displaying RPM's. Please tell us that was a typo. ... and G/L with the car.

I certainly will.

Yes, the tachometer and speedometer both quit working when this happened. As far as I could tell the fuel gage was the only thing reading correctly.

---
edit- tachometer not odometer....although I am pretty sure the odometer wasn't updating either.
