this was off of mototuneusa.com "Street riding isn't a controlled environment, so most of the mileage may not be in "ring loading mode". Synthetic oil is so slippery that it actually "arrests" the break in process before the rings can seal completely. I've had a few customers who switched to synthetic oil too soon, and the rings never sealed properly no matter how hard they rode. Taking a new engine apart to re - ring it is the last thing anyone wants to do, so I recommend a lot of mileage before switching to synthetic. It's really a "better safe than sorry" situation.

The rings seat themselves in the first few hundred miles. You should be good to switch to synthetic after 3750 miles.

Mobil 1 fully synthetic is good oil. If you plan on doing a 15~20k mile drain interval, then you should look at the hyper-expensive oils. If you are sticking with the 5000~7500 interval, Mobil 1 will do just fine.

I have 5000 miles on Mobil 1 in my 4Runner; the color, smell, and feel of the oil is nearly identical to when I first poured it in.

Search on the internet for M1 oil analysis, it's by far the best there is on a consistent basis.

You can use M1 from day one. It is factory filled in many cars.
The old myths are still around and they are not true

Totally agree with this. M1 is a group 3 synthetic. Made from a good base stock, but not the best for extended drain intervals.
To see clear oil after 5K miles is not the norm. Synthetics do very well at suspending dirt, combustion by products, etc in the oil. The dark color indicates that the oil is indeed doing its just by suspending the bad stuff.

ok just to be on the safe side of both arguement, first oil change will be with dino oil (i change dino oil at 3k) and after that, ill go with my m1 with 5k intervals. i know how good m1 is. during a valve cover gasket at 70k on my old car (99 a4 1.8tq, chipped since 20k), the intenals were like brand new! no pits, no wear, no black soot, nothign!

I have never had any real concrete proof that Synthetic is better than Dino. For the money, I would focus on getting regular dino changes as opposed to using synthetic.

And for those who claim that synthetic oil stays clearer for longer...I never understood the logic. Oils turn dark because they suspend contaminants so you can argue that an oil that turns darker quicker is the better oil (As evidenced by todays dino oil vs old dino oil which didn't have the ability to do so and would cause instant sludge build up).

The G35's engine is definitely a high performance engine, but I don't think it requires synthetic and I don't intend on putting synthetic in it. You should do whatever you think is better, but if you have to come on a msg board and ask about it, odds are you are just wanting to chuck $$$ away.
