Escort Passport 9500i = Radar Detector?

Sorry, I am not so hip on the terminology in regards to detectors as they are illegal in VA. I could use one this weekend though. Had a big evening/night planned in DC (Nice dinner, Ringling Bros Circus, and nice hotel) with the girlfriend Sat night, but her grandfather passed yesterday and the funeral is in Pittsburgh Saturday. She wants to try and make it from Pittsburgh to DC in time for the show.... could be a fun drive through the mtns of WV.

the thing that people complained a lot about was false signals. this thing has a gps chip - it will give a false alarm the first time, but then the 2nd day when you drive past the same location and it gets the same signal, it will not beep. thats pretty cool.

The 9500i does sound very cool, although some of the radar forum guys have been testing it and seeing some problems with it. If you lock out a known signal and go back to the same location and there is a new signal but on a different frequency, the 9500i isn't picking it up even though it should. Hopefully Escort can update the firmware using the USB feature. I'm waiting on the sidelines to see what happens.

as to the overlays.. they are a pain to install! i messed up my first set.. took it to a local tint shop and they had a hard time also.. they said the film was too thin or some BS.. but ive seen others use the same film and turns out seexy =)

yeah, I purchased from escortradar.com

I also bought the invisicord and installed this morning. looks good. I had the file down the metal leads that the invisicord has because they were not "going into the slots" - once I made them thinner they fit right in.

I am using the rubber suction mount for now... wasnt too impressed witht he custom mounts available... I'll use some of my own ingenuity and build a cleaner looking mount (I have a feeling some magnets should do the trick to hold the radar detector in place...)

hope magnets dont interfere with radar.

today I rode in to work - I was very suprised by the few # of alarms I got in auto mode. almost none in "city" mode. but more on the detector in another forum.

thanks

What I find interesting about this radar detector is that you can "teach" it where to warn you, such as where speed cameras, school zones, etc. are. However, you first have to teach it where these areas are. What would be a great feature is if folks can "share" these areas and so one can download the information to their radar. Hopefully folks start doing this, and then it will be much more valuable.
