Hissing static from driver side tweeter?

Starting yesterday night, i started getting random static from the driver side tweeter. It's a really light hissing that comes and goes. I can't get it to occur regularly. I'm going to take it in and have the dealer check it out, but it seems odd that it comes and goes. Anyone else have this occur?

You've probably already done this, but have you checked multiple CDs / multiple sources?

Also, does it happen when stationary or moving - or both?

Maybe a loose connection?

It happens when either stationary or moving. It started happening when moving, I haven't had it start occurring when stationary. When I stopped at a red light it still did it. However, when I'm in the car, I'm moving more often than stopped so I don't know that it wouldn't start occurring when the car is stationary. It goes away when the car's moving too, but once again not being stopped as much as moving factors into it.

I've gone as far as shutting OFF the stereo, and shutting off the climate control to make sure there's no other sound but engine noise and it kept on going.

So you're getting a hiss through the stereo without it being on...?
Sounds like a short. Or you're getting cross over noise from a component close to the audio head or harness.

I'd see the dealer.

yeah. i'm going to have them look at that. What's odd is it's intermittent. It's happened three times in the last few days.

wow. this has gotten bad. Instead of just a hiss (it originally sounded like air leaking) it's now hissing, crackling and popping that are really really loud and now it's occurring out all 3 driver side front speakers.

got an appointment tomorrow to get it looked at but it's quite distracting when it starts doing it while driving. think of taking a static audio track, and playing it at 75% volume level, and that's about how loud this is.

It does sound like somethings shorted out, or some wire insulation on your stereo has worn through and now shorting out.

Hope the dealer can fix it for you.

I'm more worried about the short/connection problem sending unclean power to the speakers blowing them. the popping is really really really loud when it occurs and I can totally see something like unclean power causing it then blowing the speaker out.

took the car in, they thought it was the amp.
replaced the amp, thought the problem went away. Took it out and 15 min later it's doing it again. Dealership was closed by the time it started happening (I got there right before they closed to pick up the car).

AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!! It's not just loud and annoying, but it makes it hard to concentrate while driving. Now I have to wait til monday before they can look at it again.

I'm really missing my Lexus experience. At least with the Lexus I can bring it on on Saturday and they have service staff in, and get a loaner car.

I don't have a clue what your problem could be, but when I plug my ipod into the aux input and i also plug in my ipod charger i get some annoying engine interference with it. longshot, but it might be the same problem

Different problem. You might want to get one of these to solve your problem:

I've got one and it worked like a charm.

got a call from the service guy. They're replacing my entire audio unit now. According to the nissan tech the shop to talk on the phone, they've seen this in about 2 or 3 cars across the country and on all of them replacing the audio unit solved the problem. Hopefully it's not on backorder now .
