2007 G35x: Is After Market Alarm Needed?
2007 G35x: Is After Market Alarm Needed?
Hi...Reached the one week mark and loving every second driving this car. What are the opinions concerning adding an aftermarket alarm to the car? Is the stock alarm system enough?
Any suggestions or recommendations would be very helpful.

The stock is "ok" I guess. It only sets off when the doors, trunk, or hood is opened while the car is locked. You can however add this neat little thing for $20

A neat little sensor that'll set off the alarm when someone bumps into the car. Here are the intructions:

If you live in the tri-state area you should invest in something a little more stellar than a DIY sensor mod with your stock alarm system. Thieves already know that our windows roll down when the key hole is popped out. HA! I figured out how to stop that from happening. I will give the juicy details after I return from me errands.
Okay Tomorrow morning I will have the Viper 5000 installed. I consider this to be a bonus. After my car was broken into I decided to do a little research on how the windows roll up and down and what mechanism controls this function. Feast your eyes on this. Here, you will see the key cylinder that was punched in with a measly flathead screw driver. That isn't the interesting point though. Notice the orange piece connected to the key cylinder. This orange piece connects to a rod that runs down to the control mechanism that causes the windows to roll down or up with the turn of a key or a screw driver. Flat head preferably
. The fix to prevent your windows from rolling down, if you become a victim, is to disconnect the orange piece from the connecting rod. This does not affect anything else. You can still roll down your windows with your I-key.

I would also add. After you disconnect the rod, you need to secure it nice and snug to the corner of the inside of your door panel so you will not have the slight sound of a loose metal piece every time you close the door. For all the thiefs that are lurking these sites, they now have somthing else to worry about.
Previously I mentioned on an earlier thread that I was going to add the Viper 7900. That unit had a lot of bad reports from installers that I spoke to. One good resource that we have here is Johnmaxx. He is very knowledgable about these alarms.
