Can't display CD info (title, artist, etc.)
Can't display CD info (title, artist, etc.)
Just picked up my G last Saturday and I have been reading through the manual when I can find the time.
It mentions use of the "text" display that appears on the bottom left of the CD screen to show info about the disc that is playing. It says to use the Infiniti controller to highlight the word "text" on the screen as the CD is playing to access the info.
Anyone had any luck with this? I can't figure it out.
Am I a dope (be nice
)or is the manual not fully explaining the process?
TIA

You're a dope...I kid, I kid.
Make sure you're on the CD screen as the text button is not displayed on the status screen. You should see the text button in the lower left hand corner of the screen and you can turn the Infiniti controller to access it or if you have nav you can use the touch screen.

Thanks for your help.
I am going to quiz the dealer on this one since nothing I have attempted has worked...

It does nothing when I press the left or right button on the controller. If I press the up or down button it again scrolls through the CD tracks.
Thanks for the suggestion...
Do you see the text button on the screen? Is it grayed out?
What kind of CDs are you trying to read the text from? Burned on the computer audio/MP3 format or commercially produced audio format?

Since you just got your car let me give you some advice that took me 3 month to figure out. A post a few days back said to burn CD's in an MP3 format then it will show the text.
My suggestion is this:
1. Assuming since you are on the web you have the ability to burn CD's (too many software choices so I won't start a debate over which is best), I know it's a stupid comment but some do not have a CD burner or have never used it. Copy all of your CD album's to your PC and store them. Then promptly throw all of your original CD's in the trash, you'll never need them again. just joking, but only slightly.
Select your favorite Burning software and burn multiple albums to one CD in an MP3 Data Format. I burned 10 album onto one CD's yesterday!! Once you do it, if done right you can put that burned CD in you player and it will display all of the album. Then use your Infiniti controller to select the album you want to listen to and hit the middle button to display, otherwise it will just begin playing song one on album one. Give it a few second to recognize the data and all the info will show, which is very cool. Once you are inside the album folder hit the back button to go back to the album list. It's very simply. 2. Don't even bother buying an MP3 player if you do not have one already or would not use it otherwise, it's almost a waste of money. I know I spent $250 plus $50 in accessories and now I rarly use it. Too much work and you have to take your eyes off the road, to fiddle with buttons. I was hoping to accomplish with an MP3 player what a burned CD's will do more easily. The only way to view you album/song lists off our MP3 player in the car's screen is to modify your car to override the video lock out in the AUX mode, which we are no long discussing on this forum. Honestly it's a waste of time anyway, burned a CD is just so easy.
Good luck!!

When I was recording some of my favorite CDs to the Music Box last week, most of the album and song titles were picked up by the built-in GraceNote(?) matching database software. Only a very small handful of CDs had problem with picking up the album and song titles.
So I think it has more to do with each specific CD. Even if it can't read or match the titles with GraceNote, I do believe there is a way to manually do this with the CF card port.

I have the same set up as "G35S" and believe he is talking about the standard SOW. The only way I've found to read this data is either burn in a data MP3 format or buy CD's with that info encoded.
I have a burner and a turntable that converts to CD that I can label myself so I will give that a try.
I guess the followup question would be why won't the screen even allow me to access the "text" function? I really don't know if the CDs I am trying to access info from are encoded because I can't highlight the #$%@ button...
I appreciate all the responses, none the less.
I'll run it by the techs at the dealership and hopefully come up with an answer.
Thanks...
[QUOTE=G35S]You are correct and thanks for the tips, EWG35.

If it's not encode the button will never allow you to select it. That's how you know if it's encoded.
The way I understand it is like this (and I'm speaking in layman's terms): Different CD's are created differently. Most appearantly do not have any title info on them. I know that sounds odd if you have ever ripped a CD to you PC because your PC shows titles for every CD, the album name and the album cover, right? They just pop in there making you think it's actually on the CD when it's not. I'm not 100% certain but I believe that to be true.
I can give you two examples. 1. I have a CD from a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee I bought new. The CD has a number of songs, most are Kenny Logins song from Top Gun, but every other track is not a song it's a voice telling you about features like "how to set your clock" on your new Jeep. When my PC ripped it, it found titles, I guess through GraceNote (a song information database). Once it was ripped, the album was listed as the "Top Gun movie sound track" which is not at all what this CD is and even gave it the Top Gun album cover! GraceNote just guessed as best as possible based on the first song or two, but guesses wrong sometimes. This has happen several times for me. 2. My real estate agent sends me a Christmas music CD each year. It rips as "Manheim Steamroller". It does have one manheim song on it but it's a mixed CD.
As I undertand it very few CD's had encoded titles. Your PC software hits a song CD database and finds the album cover and song titles. I have heard people say some old and some new album have encoded data but not all. If the data is not encode you cannot scroll over to the TEXT button. If it is you can. I have never had one original CD work in my car but I've only tried about 20. After burning them they all work. You may get lucky and have a CD that works but I'm told the problem is the CD not the car.
If you can burn, burn them so that you have many albums on one CD. Then you will have 10-12 albums on each CD giving you 60 to 72 albums to listen to instead of 6. My MP3 Player has 100 CD's on it but I cannot view the titles unless the car is stopped and my parking brake is on ~ bummer... just group your burned CD by each band or genre and you are set. It kicks a$$!

That explanation makes sense. Thanks EWG35. I'll try the "multiple burn" you suggested.
And it's not like I NEED to have the CD info. I already know it.
But if it is there and has a function, I am bent until I figure it out.
Call it my **** retentive personality

CD info problem solved...
Quote from EWG35
I remembered a CD I have that DID display tracks and title.
Threw that baby in there and...voila...information.
And it allowed me to access the text button which then displayed the full info from each track.
My bad for assuming all CDs would display info.
Thanks EWG35 and to all that responded with ideas. Problem solved...
