install a short shifter? I'm thinking about doing it.

IMO, the stock shifter is precise and has a nice short throws. I don't see a need to improve the stock shifter - other than the vibration (the clutch can use an upgrade though!!)
I wouldn't change it out. (plus the trim piece on the stock shifter is done well and goes with the rest of the car).

+1 The stock shifter has an excellent feel to it already

I too agree, the stock shifter is short already. If anything, Id kind of like a taller one. This shifter rushes the sychros as is (argh 2nd gear), no need to make it worse.
