Phone - multiple entries on download

On my blackberry, I have about 100 contacts; for each contact, eg for John Smith, I typically have Work, Cell and Home.

When I downloaded (uploaded?) these to the car, all the numbers transferred correctly, but I see John Smith listed three times, one for each number...and no way to tell which is which. Are there any tricks to address this?

Tx

I think that is normal ... that's how it works with Windows Moile 5 as well. The only work around is to create a different entry in Outlook for each number.

Another workaround I just thought about maybe to add a letter suffix to the the phone number in Outlook and see if it is transferred to the car and displayed/ignored when dialing (H for home, W for work, and M for mobile?). If anyone tries this, please post results.

when I transfer sim cards from one phone to another the same thing happens... I can have one contact name with three different numbers each identified but when I put the sim card to another phone they all read cell (even though the different numbers are still there)... I guess it's the way the software reads? It's a PITA!

I suspect transferring contact numbers to the car is similar...

If you attempt to download TWICE, how does it work...does it just capture changes?...or does it duplicate the entires?

I can test the idea with the letter as a suffix....just dont want another 300 duplicates added!!

From my limited testing any download replaces all earlier entries.
So if you have 55 in there, and you try to "add" 3, it will delete the 55 and leave only the 3.

Did not test further, so if someone has a different experience, please correct me

But if I have 55 downloaded, and revised an entry on one of them, and dowloaded again, I would assume it deletes 55 and replaces them with 55...ie one would still see the effect of the change and not lose any data...

it will ask if you want to replace the downloaded phone book. If you only add/change the 1 entry to see what happens with suffixes, all the other entries will be reloaded but nothing will change.

I just tried entries with letters. The letters do not transfer. I had some numbers with extensions (e.g. (123)555-1212 x1234). In this example, the number trasferred is 12355512121234. It skips the letter x character.
