Got a 07 loaner this moring and my impressions

I got a 07 G35 loaner this morning. It's not the "S" model but it has 18in. wheel so I am not sure if the suspension tuning is for sport. My guess is it's the regular journey since the ride is a bit soft compared to my 06 G35 sport suspension.

Here is my impression:

1. Engine: Below 3K rpm, it's similar to the old maybe slightly less torque. But above 3Krpm or so, it's much more powerful and more willing to rev. The engines revs smoother and quite a bit more composed. The sound is definitely more viscerial as opposed to a more gutteral note of the old engine.

2. Chassis: More buttoned down. The rear stays more planted. There is a couple of 60mph corners on my commute that have some mid turn bump, where the rear end of the 06 would tend get unsettled, in the new car, it catches the wheels and prevent the car from jumping around sooner. On the old car, sometimes you feel like your on top of the car instead of in it. There is also less front plow. For example, when accelerating out from a red light for a left turn, on the old car, the front end sort of feel heavy and tends to plow a little, with the new car, it feels more balance in all four corners.

3. Steering: I think the old car steering is more linear and progressive. I prefer the old. The new steering changes too much from soft too firm. Since this is probably a non-sport version, my 06 model definitely has more feel especially on the front wheels. Maybe with sport suspension tuning and stronger bushing, it's different.

If there is one thing that stops mre from purchasing this car, it would be the steering. Something about it that did not communicate very well even compared to my 06 sport version. Maybe the 07 sport version is different.

But one thing that really impresses me with the 07 is how well the ride feels considering it is quite a performance car.

its funn how you say below 3k rpms feels less torquey. Coming from an 06 coupe, turning down a sideblock i would have to downshift to second, if i tried it in 3rd the car would bog. My 07 6mt sedan can make the turn in 3rd with no problem.

Not to hijack but what is your impression of the 07 6mt? Did you own an older G35 with a manual? Have things gotten better? Please say yes... Also what are your RPMs @ 80 in 6th?

I myself have been waiting for my local Infiniti dealer to update the rental fleet to 07s. I really cannot wait for the mini test drive.

I agree. The 07 is, in one word, refined.

i had the 07 loaner yesterday, i loved every piece of it and thought it was a major improvement. As for steering it's very good for a sedan steering and at 90 mph it's very responsive. i am very impressed

My 06 is an 5AT and so is the loaner.

The rpm@80mph is simliar to my 06 too. I am not sure why it is so high compared to other car in its class.

yea i posted that i had an 06 g35 6mt coupe prior to this. The 6mt in the 07 is worlds beyond my 06. Its really not even a question. I posted in another thread that even my father who isnt much of a stick driver test drove it and said how much better it was. At 80 mph though rpms are still high. Pretty much the same as my coupe.
