@ more years and infiniti should be the best. I know that's not going to help now. But at least we know they are working on it. This year they'll introduce the EX with scratch guard and next year the M will get it and the year after the G. It is basicaly a self healing clear coat. It heals in 3 days. So if your car got scratched 3 days later gone. Like brand new.

I read about it on the EX35.

Basically, surface scratches disappear. The clear coat is kinda fluid.

Seriously though, why don't cars just come with a nice thick clearcoat from the factory??

^^ It's a new Nissan technology, I don't know if they offer it for after market yet but I'm sure there will be many people interested if they do.

I don't know where else but I have seen a big article about it. This one just tells a bit of it.

Neither of those links really provide any information.
This one provides a little bit more info, but not much.

Look under the Eight exterior colors line

Manufacturers should use double sided galvanized steel to minimize rust. I got a 1999 VW Passat, with a chip of paint out (accident related) showing bare metal. It has been 5 or 6 years now, and absolutely no sign of rust.

I've had a 2000 540 BMW for 7 years and it has some stone chips mainly in the hood and they have never rusted. Just chipped off the paint. The undercoat, whatever they use, seems to not get penetrated. And I have some heavy hit chip indents.

The main reason for that because the hood is aluminium on the 540 and so on our cars.

The paint chips off easily... sucks, but it's for the environment
