Center console space consumption.

So I finally got around to snapping some pictures of my center console. I know a number of people on the various ipod threads (sorry for starting a new one but I couldn't find the threads I was looking for) were worried that they wouldn't be able to fit one of the radioshack ground loop isolators and their ipod charger in there. Well here's proof that they fit, plus a 12v y-splitter and a motorola RAZR car charger

If you don't mind drilling a hole, you could easily hide that stuff under your console to free up space. At least the ground loop isolator.

When I installed the Nav unit I made a slot under the power socket and brought all the wires through there (Pull out the socket, make the slot, pull the wires, replace the socket). I also put the ground loop isolator underneath. It looks really clean and if you have to remove it nobody would ever know as you can't see the slot from the top.

oh yeah, i forgot the 6mt has a much smaller center console than the 5at. that might be why people were worried about running out of space.

Compared to the AT, the 6MT does not have a center console

Does the group loop isolator fix all the hissing problems. I have the XtremeMac RoadTrip cable.

The ground loop isolator fixes the humming/buzzing noise. I don't know that it fixes hissing as I didn't have hissing. If your hissing is caused by ground loop noise it should work.

Hissing is usually overamplification. My Belkin has a line-out that has a built-in amplifier. If I tune that amplifier to high I get hissing and distortion. If the XtremeMac RoadTrip cable has a built in amplifier you might want to try tuning that down and using the car stereo's volume.

Basically with the Belkin car kit, the ground loop isolator I have no unusual noises or interference with my ipod.

Honda Accord
Compared to my old 2000 Honda Accrod Coupe... it really does have a tiny space.

But I guess I never needed that much space anyway!

I have the Radio Shack Ground Loop Isolator. It got rid of the hum using a regular audio/video cable plugged into the headphone jack, and a charger plugged into the bottom connector of my iPod. I also have the Xtrememac cable, the one that has audio, video and power all in one that plugs into the bottom of the iPod. For some strange reason, I can't get rid of the hum. I posted this in an old iPod thread a while back. The Xtrememac cable would have been nice, but I can't get rid of the hum even with the Radio Shack ground loop isolator. So, I don't use the Xtrememac cable.

Can someone post a pic of the 6MT center console? I can't remember what it looked like at the dealer.... although I do remember test driving it and it being small (before we decided to get the X)

I have a phone charger, card reader, sunglasses box, backup garage opener, and the change tray - all fit well. I don't understand what the problem is.

I guess I won't get a ground loop isolator for the xtrememac cable. i guess that cable was a serious waste of money. oh well.
