Thumbs up 1/4 Mile Time Questions

I plan on taking the car to the track on sunday.

Is it better to race the car in Drive or DS?

I have practiced a few times on some roads with no traffic.

I find that by holding down the break and hitting the gas, the RPM's dont stay high as the slip technology is screwing it up...This is in drive...

so I feel that I will get the same time or even better if I just punch it instead of holding the break.

FYI i have the 2007 sedan journey edition.

Any tips?

If you havent already... you'll want to turn off the VDC.

  • Turn off VDC, it will slow you down (SOME wheelspin is okay)
  • Torque braking to around 1,500 should work; when you go, don't punch it too hard or you'll spin too much
  • I haven't tried, but am not certain that DS or D will let you rev all the way out in first (shift at redline). If it won't, manual shift (sorry I can't tell you, I use manual 100%)

Good luck!

Do you recommend torque breaking or just flooring it at the start? I really dont see torque breaking doing a whole lot...?

Have you done your time yet? DS feels like I can get higher RPM's off the jump... I am going to run the car down to 1/4 take or so and be ready.. probably do it 2 or 3 times.

D and DS modes certainly do let you rev all the way to redline in first.

if D is anything like any other nissan transmissions, I highly do not recomend leaving in that mode. When i had my 05 max me and my friend with the exact same car did test runs. Tiptronic on that car will shift automaticly at redline as well. Whichever car that was left in D vs the other one in tip, the one in D got smoked bad. D on the maxima shifts about 1200 rpms before redline were the tip mode was 150 rpms before.

Like I said, on the 07 g35 sedans, "D and DS modes certainly do let you rev all the way to redline in first". I've done it many times. haha
