Clear coat on stock grill

My dealer has agreed to replace the grill on my new 07 sedan due to several rock chips.

Would it make sense to spray several coats of clear finish on the new grill before installing it? Wondered if that might help protect it. Certainly cheaper than clear bra on the grill.

a few strips of clearbra are only a few bucks and a little elbow grease.
you can buy 2" strips at stickercity.com

Interesting idea with the film.

But I have to wonder if the film itself will pull of the plating if you ever decide to remove it.

Probably! I am convinced it would chip if you gave it a mean look...

Confirmed... When I saw all the chips with only 4K miles while I was waxing it over the weekend I growled at it and 3 more chips appeared.

i have no idea how well the clearcoat will adhere to the surface... it's not primer.

I doubt it. I took the clear bra off my hood and didn't have any problems. Might try a few coats of wax on it before you install the clear bra. Just make sure and let it cure for 24hours before you put the bra on.

Which clear bra did you get? Did you install it yourself? Why did you remove it?

you're not supposed to put wax underneath the bra film.
you can put wax over it though
