07 Rims

Although I would only rate the standard rims at a 6 out of ten as far as appearance is concerned, I would rate them at 10 as far as staying free from brake dust. I used to spend about an hour cleaning the 04 rims that would be black after a week (front). It was really a pain to keep them clean looking. It's a pleasure not to have to do anything but wash with a sponge.

This should be titled Brakes, because I agree 100% that there is no brake dusting at all with the 07 brakes (at least on my X). It is so nice that you don't have to clean brake dust off after every couple of days.

Yeah, I was just going to say the same thing. I think it is more the brake pads then the wheels, but it is very nice either way.

The one thing I see different between you and the others that responded to this thread is You have the bigger Sport brakes, whereas the journey and the X have smaller brakes. Does the larger 07 brakes have a dusting problem, perhaps others can join in with their experiences.

Not for me - the only time I've seen any real brake dust was after the road course session. Otherwise it takes a couple of weeks for dust to settle in.

FWIW...the sport (larger) brakes have VERY LITTLE break dust at all. Tons less than the 03 G35 that I had. It's real easy for cleaning...

Yeah - little dust here (Sport)
Much less than on my FX. A little bit more than with the M.

I get next to no brake dust with my 07 Wayne. This makes me happy in a HUGE way since my 03 was absolutely brutal for brake dust.

Couple of things to consider with a new car: The pads are new and the wheels are coated with wax, both of which contribute to the small amount of dust caught on the wheels. As your pads wear out and the wax strips off, you will start noticing more and more dust between washes.

If the dusting continues I would see the Dealer since it sounds like most of the other 07 owners are very satisfied asnd have no dreaded dusting problems. It could also be as Speeed says, just because it is new and might improve.

My Audi S4 front wheels used to get almost black in a week or so. The G35S gets almost none. I assume it generates less, but perhaps the wheels are less prone to dust sticking to them.

Manufacturers pay HUGE attention to customer surveys (JD Power) now, especially luxury brands. Nissan surely changed the compound on the front brake pads due to the high volume of complaints for dust buildup on prior year models. It pays a small price at the track, but saves huge headaches at the weekly wash.

Makers (like VWAG) use compounds with high metal content. The dust becomes magnatized as it is worn-off, and sticks to the wheels.

Another one of these changes landed us in the situation we have now with the front tires on the sport wheels. They made the profile larger on the front wheels for comfort. This is great; however, we only have one brand and model to chose from when it's time to "re-tire".

maybe the "breaks" in your braking system are broke.
