Only took a month and a week since owning a G..

...but I got my first ticket in 8 and 1/2 years of driving. I guessed that it would take around 3 months to get a ticket in my new X, but I shoulda known to take the under!

I hit 6 red lights in a row and was getting so mad....another light was coming up with a right turn into a tunnel, and I saw it turn yellow. I gunned it but didn't make it on the right turn. 2 motorcycle cops pulled me over once I was out of the tunnel.

Sort of made me sad and not want to drive fast anymore.....but that only lasted a day!

at least you get to go to traffic school!

i have to fight my last ticket in court because i went to school within the last 18 months...

well, that and i have a legitimate reason and i think i have a chance of getting the point off my license.

was on my moto. one lane road. person in front of me in a minivan was dangerously alternating between lots of throttle and lots of brake. not with malice IMO... just a bad bad driver.

lanes opened up to two, so i overtook with judicious throttle to minimize my time in minivan-person's blind spot (less likely to get pinned off the road). after the maneuver i came back down to posted speed. but right when i did the overtake is when the cop radared me. bad luck.

what many cagers don't realize is that when you're on a bike, you have a different, a LOT more paranoid mindset... i didn't want to get creamed, and what i did was the safest thing in that specific situation that i could think of.

hanging back was option two, but i decided i was more likely to get involved in something bad if the cager slammed on the brakes or had a head-on with oncoming traffic.

I have been considering a V1 for the past 5 years...

Does it really work well? I mean... it's a $400 device and I wouldn't want to waste my money on something that does not give me some darn accurate warnings.... if you know what I mean.

Any comments would be appreciated.

my high end radar/laser detector was stolen a few years ago and i don't miss it one bit. here's a tip, if you're in an area where the cops use laser, don't bother with a detector...it'll just notify you you're about to get a ticket before the cop does.

same goes for "instant on" radar, where they aren't just leaving it on waiting for someone to speed by, but are actually pointing and shooting at people that appear to be speeding. no detector will help you in that situation

I got my first ticket ever in my G35x, as well. Three weeks into owning it.

93 in a 65. Two miles from the exit I was taking.

No court appearance required

Infraction is $95. Traffic school another $30. Seeing as it happened 2 hours from home, school is easier than court, and I couldn't care less about the fees.

If I get busted again, within a year of traffic school, I'll put my lawyer on it

ahhh yes, the liberal IL traffic laws...i miss them in TX the fines are literally 3x what they were up there. count your blessings -- hell, at least in TX we don't have a points system! (well, we do, but it's not like the awfulness that most other states have)

I am not sure if Illinois does points or not. But if I complete traffic school, the conviction wont be reported into whatever system the insurance companies have access to.

oh, i didn't mean to imply IL had a point system (they didn't in all my years there), i just meant while IL's traffic laws (at least in relation to traffic violations) are better than TX, ours are still better than those other states with true points systems

Yes, it works great; I've recently had a Passport 7500 (sucked) and 8500 (good), and now have a V1. It works great (the arrows are REALLY great), if:
  • You're not alone on the road, so you're the only target and the police are using instant-on
  • If they aren't using laser (I don't care what anyone says, with laser there's at least an 80% chance you're nailed)
  • You're not going so freakin' fast that they keep their radar off, but pull you after observing your high speed

Don't rely on the detector. As possible, follow someone else who's speeding so they can take the hit (stay a couple hundred yards back). Watch for traffic reactions, like everyone suddenly hitting their brakes - could be police.
And watch speed into high-risk areas (in Texas, those are the small towns on major highways - where they have jurisdiction)

Your terrible English aside, why would I be mad if I just ran 6 red lights in a row? I never knew that "hit" meant "ran"
