Tough to find a 6MT?

Hello folks, I have been browsing these forums for a few weeks now and tried to search for my question but didn't have any luck. I currently drive a Honda S2000, but need to buy a 4-door car for a new position I've accepted in Chicago. I've narrowed my search to a G35 sedan, and took a test drive of an Auto G35X over the weekend, just to get an overall feel for driving a 3500lb car as opposed to the 2900 lb car I currently have. I really liked it, but I'm wondering how tough it's going to be to find a Sport 6MT. The dealer that I test drove with said that only about 2% of all 07s are 6MT. I'd MUCH rather have a 6MT than an auto, and for sure want the premium and nav package, but I'll be a little flexible on the color. Should I just call a dealer and see what they can do about locating one at another dealer? Am I probably going to have to wait several weeks to take delivery?

Thanks for you help

Yes, they are more rare since there are less built. I think you'll find some out there just by calling some surrounding area dealerships. At least in certain parts of the country you should be able to find them no problem. Even if your local dealership does not have one, they can get you one from another dealership. It's good that you're a little flexible, that helps too.

Dcak,

I'm picking up my 6MT in West Michigan today and there's another 6MT on the dealer's lot, black obsidian/graphite w/prem pkg. You may want to check this dealer out, pm me for dealer's info if interested. We're a 35 min flight from O'Hare and the drive back to downtown Chicago would be maybe 2 1/2 hours. I was able to negotiate $500 over invoice on my order with this dealer back in March, same config as their car (minus splashguards) but different color.

Yup it is tough(er) to locate a 6MT -- but I think the ratio is more than 2% - I think it is more like 5 to 10%.

It is tough finding a 6MT in the color and options you want. It's why so many of went the ordering route.

My dealer located one for me in a different state, paid to have it delivered here, AND sold it to me at invoice. Some dealers are nicer than others

It's pretty hard to find a MT and Nav. combination. Most people that want a MT can't afford the Nav system.... (Kids)

They had two Sport 6MTs on the lot when I got mine. I would reconsider a manual in a big city like that but to each his/her own! The auto is pretty darn smart considering... I know its no manual but I have been happy and have not yet second guessed my choice. One trip to Atlanta and I'm sure I will know I made the right choice. Anyway, good luck finding what you want! I'm going in for an oil change on friday and I'll check and see if its still there if you want.

It's not always about being in the right gear or having it downshift for you at the right time.
There's just something about clutching and rowing your own that can NEVER be duplicated by anything electronic or mechanical substitute, DSG included.
