OEM Oil Filter
OEM Oil Filter
Ok, looked all over the place (google, forum search) and cannot for the life of me find the full Nissan part number for the oem oil filter for the '07 sedan. Please let me know the number if you bought one.
Also, where does everyone buy their OEM filters from, besides the dealer? I've read that people are paying $5 for their filters. My dealer charges $11 a pop. Thanks in advance

i've heard that the OEM filters are like fram (filter is made of cheap material such as cardboard). if youre paying $11 for an OEM filter from the dealership, i would rather get a Mobile 1 (M-108) filter for $10 at autozone.
If you want to go OEM, just shop around. I think I was quoted around $11 at the Nissan dealer, but $5 at the Infiniti dealer in town. Each dealership has its own markup.
I'd take the advice of RefuGz, and buy an aftermarket one, though. I have had good luck with PureOne.

It's funny you mention this, a little off subject as it is. I once needed a headlamp relay for my Q45, $27 from my Infiniti dealer 30 miles away and they mentioned it was a general Nissan Part and to check maybe at a local Nissan dealer... $42 later I had one in my hand from the local Nissan. Still to this day I'm confused...

One thing to note is that the part numbers are not the same from Nissan to Infiniti even for the "same" part. We ran into this when looking for some exhaust hangers for Trey's car. The parts are the same but the numbers are different and if the parts people don't know what they are doing, you might end up with the wrong thing. An oil filter or something of sort is pretty simple but other things may not be so obvious. Just an FYI for anyone who is looking for parts.

reservoir? that's called the oil pan.
all filters ARE a reservoir because of their inherent shape. the side mount setup may prohibit all the oil from staying in the filter, but that's a moot point.
the time it takes to charge the oil system would be negligibly different with a larger oil filter capacity.
don't believe all the hype you read/hear. get an explanation that makes sense before you go investing your energy into something.

and BTW the machanism the prevents drain from the filter when the car is off is the anti drainback valve, not a reservoir. and it's to protect the car from contamination with dirty oil.
and all modern filters use one. they may be of varying quality, though.
myself, i run an amsoil Ea Oil filter, and their synthetic oil. i've been a fan of their products for a long time. no hype, just good science.

^^^ Yes correct -- the anti-drainback valve prevents dirty oil from flowing "back" - this is in effect when the car is running or not.
Also most filters have a by-pass valve -- this is based on the theory (a correct one at that) that dirty oil is better than no oil

Not all by-pass valves are created equal though.
