RPM at 80mph?

Im looking to buy a new car soon and was doing research an read somewhere, [forget where] that at 80mph the g's rpm is at 40k. This seems really high doesn't it. My current car does 80mph at 30k, and around to over 100 at 40k.

Is this true or was this just someone posting BS, on another forum, i did a search here and didn't find anything.

Depends on the gear... I think I'm closer to 3k in 5th at 80mph, but I'll check on the way home

Keep in mind I drive an auto though.

And DS mode holds 4th for longer, so you're higher in 4th at 80 if you're in DS. But when you have to pass somebody, it's all business...

A pair of Stillen stickers on the ECU remove the rev limiter.

From what I remember its around the 3k range. If you keep it at 4k you'll be burning about 1/4tank every 45min so don't plan to go to far...

Just confirmed this... The Hutch is fun after rush hour...

80mph in 5th is about 3900-3950rpm

80mph in 4th is around 3100rpm

80mph in 3rd is 6k rpm even... and fun as hell...

3rd is good to 100mph. You hit the redline exactly as you cross 100. Or so I've been told...
