I just checked the Infiniti website and went to the colors section and it appears that the grille on the 08s are going to be painted?? I was going to get something aftermarket but I don't mind the factory grille, and it really makes the emblem pop. What do you guys think? I like it... Sorry if this is old news but I just found it...

 

I think at certain angles on the current grille the center bars are a bit darker than the outside frame.

Interesting point... but check out the website. Even head on it is clearly black (see other colors) with a thin strip of chrome where as even when heavily compressed/shrunk version (like my sig) you can see more (wider strip of) chrome. I would think this is Nissan's quick fix to the chipping grilles without having to replace the current stock.

 

Maybe I'm missing something but when I looked at infiniti.com all I saw was the 07 and though the grill looks darker in a couple pictures it is clearly the same thing we're all growing to hate.

Then Click on Colors
Click on each color and you will see that it is definitely black.

 

Nope still chrome, definitely a poorly lit picture to look at chrome though. You can see it at the edge of each bar.

 

Im not sure what you are looking at but I clearly see a chrome outline with a black center. If it were just poorly lit, the delineation between black and chrome would not be so perfect.

 

When was the last time you were served a Big Mac that looks like this:

 

Im not saying that it is going to be an option on the 08's to have a black grille. What I AM saying is that there is no doubt that the grill in those pictures is black with a chrome outline.

 

Look at the attached picture then if you have a brochure handy for the 07 sedan look at the picture of the M on the back cover, according to that picture the 07 M has a black grill. Also check out my avatar.

 

Well it would clearly make sense painting the grill black after all the problems they had on the first run of the 07's. I think the black looks good ill probably end up making a trip to the parts department and getting one from Infiniti if they dont replace my CHIPPED up one.

 

Who knows what the 08 models will have in store, but I highly doubt Infiniti will offer a black grille. Their chrome grille has become a signature for all of their models the last number of years and I can't see them changing it.

 

+1 i forgot about the signature factor. But what if they offer the special black finish on all "S" models. That would be cool.

The TL TYPE S has a special dark finish on their grills to. I wonder if they have the same problem as INIFINITI? OH well anyways

If the Grill is black I definitely think it's an attempt to deal with the chipping/pitting grill issue. Our G was purchased in April and I haven't seen any blemishes on it yet and I check pretty regularly.

Seems to me that Lexus has dealt with the potential grill issue by doing the same thing.

I really like the chrome grill but definitely wish it was higher quality.
