Dipping Mirrors On Our '07 Gs For One Owner Drivers w/ Premium

This just occurred to me this morning. Normally I don't care for dipping mirrors and disable them in the M when I'm moving one on the lot. However, on the rare occasion that I need to get close to a curb with my '07 G, I often find myself manually dipping my mirror so that I don't destroy my brand new 18" wheel.

Well this morning I came up with a pretty nifty solution that works for me and I thought I'd share it with you guys. Basically it involves using the memory seating positions to dip the mirrors. Since my GF can't drive stick, I never use memory position #2 anyway so I set it up such that position 2 has the same seating position as position #1 only the mirrors are both dipped so they're pointing toward the ground. That way when I want to dip my mirrors I just hit #2 and then when I'm parked I hit #1 again. Obviously this only works for drivers with the Premium package on their cars and for folks who don't have a different seating position set for setting #2.

I was a bit iffy at first as I didn't think the memory positions would work when the car is in gear but it worked just fine for me. I have a 6MT but I assume this would also work for folks with a 5AT. Anyway, try it out and let me know what you guys think.

it shouldn't matter - if you manually adjust the mirrors down to park, when you leave the car and get back in, the key should automatically link back to the memory positions. so move them around as needed to park, when you get back in, it'll be just like you like it anyway.

Actually I just tried it on a 5AT and I don't think it works with the automatic. As for manually lowering the mirrors...that takes too long for me.

Nothing is as bad as a Cadillac SRX though. That mirrors in that thing took about 10 seconds to move back to their normal positions after dipping. Sheesh.

Hmm. In that case, perhaps I should set position #2 to move the seat back and lift the steering column since we don't get those luxuries on our 6MTs.

with all the technologies and everything, people are finding easier way (the lazy way) to accomplish a simple task ... why? it's the luxury of being lazy and having a luxurious vehicle ...

Meh, I just thought it was cool to have both mirrors dip at the push of a button. For me it was the nifty factor, not the lazy factor.

I just leave my mirror adjustment **** turned to the right at all times. As I approach my spot at work I push it down without even looking. Then I use the mirror and the backup camera to parallel park it. The mirror to find the curb and the camera for distance. Then, I just shut the car off. When I come back out it recognizes the i-key and adjusts everything back just fine. Might not be the most savvy way of doing it, but it works great for me.

I have a 5AT. The car will not let you do anything with the memory seats unless the gear selector is in Park. Definitely more difficult than just pushing down on the mirror ****.

As I said earlier, I tried it out on a 5AT after trying it on my car (6MT) and it doesn't work. Obviously a safety feature so as to prevent you from accidentally moving the seat or column whilst the car is in gear.

However this may still work for the handful of folks here who own 6MT Coupes as I know the number of 6MT Sedan owners is limited.

And once again somebody should mention that if you guys talk to Kevin at kptechnologies.com, and you tell him there's enough interest in an 07 sedan application, he can probably work something out.

He already has a module that works with the 06 stuff, and he can probably work something out with a copy of the service manual and a volunteer in his area -- which is the only reason why I haven't gotten this going.
