Gas mileage tweaking.
Gas mileage tweaking.
So I drive almost 100% city. I have yet to take the car on a nice long highway jaunt to see what my mileage looks like there. Day to day driving though I've been anywhere between 12.9mpg to 17.1 mpg tank to tank. I decided to see what I can do if I drive like a grandma.
I had one tank at 19mpg.
The thing is, the car is begging to go nuts.
So I gave up 1/4 of the way through the second tank cuz I just couldn't let this engine be driven in such a slow-poke fashion
. It took some pretty conscious driving patterns (laying off the throttle, doing more rolling stops/turns with very very gradual acceleration, things like that), it was really difficult. I wonder if I had the patience to do it more, if the ECU would tune to that and it'd be easier to maintain a higher mpg. Then again, I figure, if I can afford the G, I'd better damn well be able to afford the gas even if it doubles current cost.

Been there - for a test that lasted about 30 miles, I averaged around 18 while driving like a grandma. Usual average is sub-15...

Me too...I drive to work 5 days a week (100% city). You just have to live with the mileage.
Although really, I find driving aggressively or driving slowly makes very little difference, so, drive however way you like.

Mileage will vary
I took the car on a 1500 mile road trip within a week of picking it up (have 2000 miles now within 2 weeks). While on the highway I was getting 22 mpg FYI traveling at an average speed of 70-80 mph.

ourselves up everytime we drive it, rather than enjoy
it.
