Gas mileage tweaking.

So I drive almost 100% city. I have yet to take the car on a nice long highway jaunt to see what my mileage looks like there. Day to day driving though I've been anywhere between 12.9mpg to 17.1 mpg tank to tank. I decided to see what I can do if I drive like a grandma.
I had one tank at 19mpg.

The thing is, the car is begging to go nuts.
So I gave up 1/4 of the way through the second tank cuz I just couldn't let this engine be driven in such a slow-poke fashion . It took some pretty conscious driving patterns (laying off the throttle, doing more rolling stops/turns with very very gradual acceleration, things like that), it was really difficult. I wonder if I had the patience to do it more, if the ECU would tune to that and it'd be easier to maintain a higher mpg. Then again, I figure, if I can afford the G, I'd better damn well be able to afford the gas even if it doubles current cost.

it's not a question. it's an observation that i thought people would be interested in. I.e. being able to hit 19mpg city only by driving like a grandma.

Been there - for a test that lasted about 30 miles, I averaged around 18 while driving like a grandma. Usual average is sub-15...

Me too...I drive to work 5 days a week (100% city). You just have to live with the mileage.

Although really, I find driving aggressively or driving slowly makes very little difference, so, drive however way you like.

Don't even look at the damn MPG just drive it and fill up the tank. Otherwise we will beat ourselves up everytime we drive it, rather than enjoy it.

Mileage will vary

I took the car on a 1500 mile road trip within a week of picking it up (have 2000 miles now within 2 weeks). While on the highway I was getting 22 mpg FYI traveling at an average speed of 70-80 mph.

I have almost 2000 miles and it's my 9th day. I'm averaging 19.5MPG with.... about 80% highway and 20% city.
