I killed Bambi and my G is now in the shop (long)

Ok I know it sounds funny and stuff like this only happens in very rare cases like that scene in "Tommy Boy" but I was traveling down 280S from San Francisco to San Jose on Sunday and hit a deer running full speed across the freeway. It came from the woods on the right side and it ran right smack dab across towards the fast lane. I tried my best to swerve out of the way but with cars and trucks behind me, I didn't want to risk losing control and spinning out causing even more damage or even instant death. So, I did what I had to do... I braked as hard as I could, and hit the deer with the front right corner of the car. It was horrible I heard 3 "thumps" as the deer's hopeless body rolled across the right side of the car. I quickly took the next exit to examine the damage and I just about freaked out about how much damage was done. I called the wife and she quickly took care of the insurance side of things (another plus about being married) and I called the highway patrol to let them know so they can move the deer's body before it causes more accidents. The next day, my insurance told me that my deductible was only $100.00 because it's covered under "comprehensive." I took it to the Infiniti dealership recommended shop and it's now there waiting to get basically the whole right side replaced - that's right - replaced. Total cost of repairs = 3600.00. Whew! Thank God for insurance!! Since it's an 07 model, they are ordering new fenders and both passanger side doors which apparently costs less than to repair the damaged parts. So now I'm stuck with an 07 Camry 4 banger for about 8 days. Not bad...at least I'm alive. I've been hearing a lot of stories about huge animals that caused immediate death, so I'm really lucky. Also been hearing a lot of "bambi killer" jokes from the coworkers and "Tommy Boy" references. I'll post pictures soon...thanks for reading this

Wow, glad you're okay, sorry about the car (and the deer!). The good news, since it's superficial (body damage vs. frame / suspension / engine), and they're replacing the panels and doors, it'll be good as new.

Hew! Close one! Good thing you're okay tho'. I've lived in Northern Arizona for about 2~3 years and.... talk about the darn coyotes. They're seriously everywhere!!!! Luckily, I've never hit one since they move so fast. Oh, by the way, I did hit a flying bird with my Yukon Denali... and cracked my windshield. LOL

eh I was expecting some gore like in the roadkill thread...

Good thing its comp and not collision! I have $0 ded. for comp so I can't wait to nail a deer or for someone's tire to blow out and hit my car so I can pick up a new front bumper lol...

its really not that much of a difference from 500 to 0 for comp deductible, like in my case it was a $300 per year difference.

Collision on the other hand is wicked expensive, so I keep the normal $500 ded. for that.
