Chips in your 07 windshield??

I was cleaning off my glass today after getting my windows tinted and noticed a chip in my windshield, then another, then another and so on. I found about 12 small chips! I don't tailgate others, ever. My grill seems to have a few chips like other on this forum, which is another story, but why would my windshield get so many chips? I drive in town, less than 500 highway miles out of 4400. I've never had another car with more than a few minor chip after 40k or 50k+ miles. Is this windshield made out of plastic?? (joking) anyone else notice this. Is this a Nissan quality issue?

I got a couple of chips on my windshield the first week I owned the car. I was driving on the interstate when I heard it (didn't see it) probably about the size of a pea, but when it hits you at 80 mph (pow!), it did leave a small chip. I've noticed a couple more since, nothing to worry about; hardly noticable. I wonder if they can be repaired? They are pretty small about the size of a pin head.

Oh yeah, lots. But then I drive mainly city highways at speed through heavy traffic with pickups and semis throwing whatever's on the road. Heard three serious cracks in one day from something hitting the windshield. Never saw any of them but they left tiny little rock pits. No big deal. Weird thing is the grill is pretty much fine. Go figure.

I'm guessing it's the aerodynamics. The slipstream's good at lofting stuff caught up in it but can't hold it long enough to clear the car. Just a guess. I was surprised how much Rain-X took care of a lot of the pitting. I'm trying Glass Scrub and Rain Clear next as the Rain-X has been taking a beating with all the rain we've been having.

There've been a number of threads on this but I don't think there've been any clear answers.

FWIW,
Pete

Yep. Chips on mine as well. Not sure why but it does seem like the glass is more susceptible(softer?) to chips than previous cars I owned for a lot longer.

Same here, probably a dozen or so spots when you get up close. My commute is 50 miles a day total and all highway so all in all not terrible. I use the Zaino glass polish so you cant tell from the inside that there are any marks.

There are different glass formulations. I prefer the soft glass like we have, that chips, rather than the hard/brittle type like on my 4Runner. The same rock that will chip the G35, will cause a bullseye and a crack on the 4Runner.

on my previous vehicle, 97 maxima, the windshield looked like the moon's surface.

I've only put about 100 city miles since picking my 2007 G35x about 10 days ago (been out of town) and I have at least 20 tiny chips already. Until I saw this post, I thought it was delivered with them (you know, maybe from transporting the car) - now I'm not sure. I hear you all about the soft glass, but this seems pretty extreme. I'm going to look into the Zaino and Rain-X.

I've got a small pebble impact and a number of small chips, as well as some fine scratching from the winter season.

Durability...hmm.

BMWs have the same problem. I was told by them that newer autoglass has been reformulated to be safer and to work better with airbags, etc. Some makes are a little thicker on the front side of the laminate however, but things like spec'ing PPG Glass no longer make as much difference as in the past.

Careful with rain-x - I find it makes the wipers not work as well. They kinda stutter on the windshield.

Sal Zaino makes great products, and this one is no exception, but it won't remove chips or pitting unless they're really really superficial.

Hey Treacherous where did you get your repairs done? I'm in the Seattle area looking for a good windshield repair shop.
