What about Castrol European Formula? Isn't that a full synthetic? I planned on trying that. Although I've used Amsoil A LOT in the past, and think it's phenomenal oil, I'm not one to order ahead, etc. I change oil more on convenience of schedule so I prefer just walking into a local shop and buying my parts. I can get the Castrol Euro Formula at Autozone.

I should just consider buying Amsoil by the case; Vans locally wants like $10 a qt.

I get it from someone at dealer cost. He always advertises on maxima.org and titantalk.com. Alternatively, the German Castrol is an outstanding oil. Although, it's been reported that it's not going to be sold in the US anymore. The US version is not a full synthetic and it's cheaper GTX dino oil often outperforms it in oil analysis. Mobil 1 Extended Performance is a great oil as well. Amsoil while arguably the best motor oil available, doesn't enjoy a marginable lead like it once had. Redline and Mobil 1 EP have shown to be formidable oils. Redline is more expensive and Mobil 1 EP is right around the same price give or take a little.

Yes the European Formula is a full PAO synthetic. I forgot about that. I just order the Amsoil directly for like $5 something a quart when I get a case.

I think the oil changing is as personal as the lease vs. buy debate. Personally, on my Maxima I do it myself 5k with Castrol 5W30, and an OEM filter. I feel that's more than adequate.

I'd follow the G35 owner's manual, but somehow I doubt it says 3k. If it did, it'd imply its motor somehow needs quite frequent oil changes.

And to think the brochures raved about microfinishing since 1994!

Is that the regular price or are you using some dealer account?

Pretty sure the manual says 3750. The onboard maint. computer is set at 3750.

I haven't seen any other motor that shows the amount of wear metals for so long as the VQ does. Mind you it's not bad at all, but it is funny. But Nissans engines last forever and they have a soul that keeps me coming back. A coworker of mine has either a 93 or 94 Maxima that runs fantastic. The only rust on the car is where it was repainted from an accident.

I am a dealer for myself and a few friends really. But the dealer or just becoming a member with Amsoil so you can order directly the cost is the same.

So becoming a "member" is different than just buying from their online store?

Change at 3,000 miles or 3 months - which ever you reach first. Always change your oil filter as well.

For my Civic, I change ever 5 million miles.

That's the guy. He paid for my "preferred member" stuff, but it's a waste since the oil lasts me so long. To pay for it yourself only raises the cost of the oil. It's only beneficial if you are going to buy it for others. I was going to switch to Mobil 1 EP, but the Amsoil was just a tad cheaper when I last looked and I can order it and have it on my doorstep in 2 days. I figured, why bother going to the store. Not worth my time. I used the Series 2k for a long long time, but it's just not worth the added cost over the 5w30.

Exactly. It is different. TalkingHorse .. Ed .. He is the dealer above me. He gets the same cost I do and so do the members below him. You get the same cost. He can sell to others and get a check in the mail for a small % per sale he makes. So basically if your a dealer same cost, but amsoil will send you a check once a month or so with money. depending how much you sell. If your just a member, you get the same cost, but you don't get the benefits of being a dealer like that.

Ed may actually get the product cheaper. An example is my experience with Shaklee. You can sign up to be a member and get the product at member cost, but if you sell a certain amount you can get the products at just slightly lower than member cost. On top of that you get commission based upon volume of selling. Ed's seems like a pretty stand up guy and has always provided me great customer service. I hope my little bit of purchases helps him out. Generally for most it's not a very lucrative business, but I imagine it could be some good change if he does well.
