AAAAAAAAAARRGH: 07 paint problems

The dealership has continually f'd up my paint on my 07 blk g. It has been buffed 3 times in 3 months of ownership b/c of the delearship messing putting scratches on my ride. They have already had to re-paint the driver side door.

Do ya'll think that the clear coat is gone now due to this many buffs in only 3 months.

Now they're telling me that they will wet sand it down.

What do I do?
Do I need to ask them to re-clear coat it??

Is my paint job like totally f'd or what?

after they re-paint your ride they will apply the clear-coat over the new paint.

you're letting the dealership paint your car?

I know that in the past some of the factory clearcoat jobs (mostly European cars I heard of, though) would be worn through, just from too many trips through the automated carwash so I doubt you have very much clear left already, especially if you're gonna ket them wet sand it!

omg I feel your pain. We had a little scratch on our G and the dealership said they'll buff it out np...now you can clearly see the clear-coat missing and it's all foggy/blurry in that area they buffed ...going to go to the dealership soon to get to the bottom of this

You won't even come close removing the clear coat in 3 polishes. The pigmented paint and clear coat combined on the G is approximately 160 microns thick (with the clear coat being about half that...so about 80 microns thick). Depending how aggressive the polish that is used will determine how many microns are removed each time.........but you have barely touched the surface with only 3 polishings. I remember Kevin (Picus), whom is our resident detailing professional say that he could compound the paint on his G35 twice a year for 40 years before all the paint is removed.

Now having said all that, wth is your dealership doing to your G and why do you keep letting them touch your car? You won't need to have them re-clearcoat it, but if I were you I wouldn't let them do anything more to your car since they were so careless in the first place. Take it to a professional detailer in your area and bill the dealership.

Yeah - never had a dealership get involved in paint issues.
They usually refer this out to a shop.
Get someone (General Manager) to agree to reimburse you to have this done by professionals!!

I would never let the dealership touch my paint.Warranty work or major repairs only.
If i have paint problems i solve it wit a little elbow grease and some tlc.I sleep better that way.

+++1. DEFINITELY push for this, a buffing shouldn't be a BAD thing it should make the car look as new.. if they don't know how to detail cars properly I wouldnt want them to be practicing on mine.
