Now another option for replacement sport tires

I was browsing through tirerack today and discovered that they now have Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season available in 225/50/18 and 245/45/18. So we aren't limited to just the RE050A's anymore.

The Goodyear's UTQG is 420 AA A. No customer reviews for that tire yet.

I thought it was ridiculous for Infiniti to run an odd size like 225/50-18. I would just go with 245/45-18 all around. The handling would be more neutral too.

thanks for the news. this presents a dilemma for me. i was going to get wheels and tires for the winter (most likley all seasons b/c it only snows twice or so a year where i live (DC area)). now with the eagles, i might reconsider just getting the eagles for the winter and forego the winter rims/tires combo, as it is cheaper.

does anyone know if the eagles would handle well in cold weather?

Can you run 245/45 on a 7.5" wheel (front)? Think that's a little narrow...?

I would agree. I have an 06 sport sedan and after putting Bridgestone Re01 245/45 at all four corners, the handling is more neutral -- less understeer than the 234/45 setup. The car is less prone to understeer especially at slow corner, but more stable at high speed corner.

According to tirerack, 245/45/18 will fit properly on a 18x7.5 rim (minimum width).

Somehow I never thought of putting 245/45/18 on all four corners, but now I might consider it...

This is good to know, good news for those who get cold weather. I think the G35 is selling well enough that tire manufacturers will start producing our odd front tire size. That Goodyear is categorized as an ultra high performance all season. I wonder how it will compare to the RE050A. I have my doubts, I've never been a fan of Goodyear. The only Goodyear tire I like is the Wrangler MT/R, but that's a different world.

I'm running 245/45/18 Pilot Sport All Seasons front ant back and they are also classed as a ultra high performance all season tire and so far I am very satisfied with them.

It's not optimal, but it will work. It'd be great if you could swap the 7.5's with someone's 8.5's. A set of 7.5's could be used for the winter.

do they have the correct offset for the front?

and if so, would they clear the steering knuckles?

it's probably not a simple swap.

18x8.5 (+50mm offset) should fit on the front without rubbing...I know of one 07 sedan that is running the M35/45 sport 19x8.5 (+50mm offset) without spacers.

However, from WT-92 of the FSM -- "Front and rear wheel size for this model differs, therefore special pin has been installed on the front brake disc rotor. To accommodate this pin a hole has been provided on the front wheel (the rear wheel does not have this hole.) and in some case the rear wheel is being mistakenly installed on the front."

...so according to this, the stock rears wheels will not fit because they do not have a hole that will accomodate this pin on the front rotors.

But then again, how do non-stock rims fit on the front???

EDIT: I'm thinking the pin is designed so that it can be easily removed?

Yes, you can unscrew the pin from the front hub no problem. If you put aftermarket wheels on the sport you have to remove the pin anyways.
