Opinions on the New G

I currently have a 2005 G35x and am considering trading in for the 2007 model. If anyone has any thoughts on the 2007 model that are worth sharing with a prospective owner please share them. Also, I am not exactly impressed with the new taillights though the headlights seem nice. I much prefer the more classy and less sporty old taillights. I am also curious about your takes on the new interior and overall quality.

Here's my 2 cents...

When I got my 2007 G35 Sport AT, I had never owned or even driven any G, though I had owned several very trouble-free Nissans. I started looking for a new car about 2 years ago and at the time was not completely sold on the G sedan because of the interior design and the exterior proportions (both highly subjective views). When I starting seeing articles and early reviews of the (then) coming 2007 G35 Sedan, I was sold, and indeed picked one up in December.

I absolutely love the car...I drool over the exterior design, feel that the interior is befitting a car of this price class, and am always grinning at the performance and exhaust note. I lovingly wash/wax it in my driveway, and still check on it in the garage before going to bed for the evening. In many respects, the vehicle is quantitatively and subjectively (IMO) 'better' than the 1st generation model.

That said, both G35 models are excellent vehicles and if I already owned a 2 year old 1st gen. G35 I very, very highly doubt I would trade it in for a new one for any reason. That is just me; I tend to keep cars longer than most people. Plus, there is always something newer and better. Suppose the 3.7 liter engine goes into the 2009 model, then what? I might be slightly curious about how perceptibly the performance will be improved, but will likely not go further than that.

I went from an 03 G Sedan to an 07 G Sedan and have ZERO regrets whatsoever. The interior quality between the 1st gen and the 2nd is night and day......it really is. The build quality is much more superior in the new Sedan....and I am sure you'll hear others say the same thing. Another thing is that the technology in the new Sedan is 100X better than the previous version. When you look at touch screen Navi, voice activation, Music Box, Compact Flash slot, and the SOW, you just can't compare it to the 1st gen Sedan.

GEE35X went from an 05X to an 07X and hasn't had any regrets at all to my knowledge. Good luck with your decision.

I love my 07, and after 8 months with it I still have to check it out as I walk away and every time I walk by a window in my house (it sleeps outside ). The options and technology are great, I use the music box everyday. Over all this is the most fun car I've owned. I'm definitely glad I sprung for the new 07 instead of a used first gen model.

Exactly. Wasn't really a fan of the 1st gen sedan, and in fact went to the dealer planning to buy an '06 coupe. Then they said "we have an '07, want to drive it?" I was in trouble as soon as it switched on and I saw the luminous blue gauges, it got worse when the I started shifting with the paddles, and I was totally sunk when I threw it into a corner and it calmly shrieked through. Love the car.

Okay, I've stopped doing this...but only recently

Right on Shane I love my 07X even more than my 05X There were big improvements across the board with the 07. All of the things everyone else has mentioned plus little things like no more seat controls on the right to dig into your leg, the oil dipstick has been relocated so it is now very easy to check oil, the exhaust tone is better.
The only complaints I have is the grill pits or chips easy, the mileage is a bit worse than my 05X was and the trunk mounted CD player takes away trunk access for storage space.
Do I regret my purchase, absolutely not, I love it. If you like your 05X you will be estatic with the 07X

I come from audiworld and before 2nd generation out, we bashed about 1st generation. The interior is sub-par compare to other lux brands.
I don't care how old my car if I see one I like I get it. So I come from 06 Audi A3 to 07 sedan G35.
I love everything but I miss the sport wagon style from A3. I also missed the fog light (seperate one, not the integrated). Other than that I give A+ for everything.
So get it. You won't regret it.

honestly you do not need any opinions from people on this board....Inifiniti has a product that sells it self...especially if you are a previous G owner. Go to the dealer ship sit inside the car test drive it and you will be sold.

+1.U gotta drive it. I came from 03 G coupe and find the 07's engine is stronger and smoother toredline, chasis and handling is stiffer yet smooth and interior is improved 2 fold.
Drive it see how it feels. My initial test drive was like 30 minutes with mix of winding back roads and highway. These gave me the full spectrum of the overall vehicle dynamics.

imo do it...the 07 sedan is pure sexy.,...the 03-06 g35 sedan to me is just reeally ugly..(sorry to the sedan owners), but only some r nice and those r the ones with nice rims etc etc...gdup35sedan comes to mind ...but definitely go for the 07 sedan...but the 03-07 G35c is a whole different situation

Now a not so glowing opinion.

We came from a Lexus SC400 to the 07 Journey within a week of release. Considered another Lexus, BMW, and Infiniti. Liked the price/features so picked the G35. Doesn’t quite have the comfort, quietness or quality of Lexus but does have features (high performance not being very impt to us).

Love the touch screen, CF player, phone system, and hid lights.

Disappointed with the navigation system especially the lock out while moving! Miss a turn while driving and can’t get to full list of waypoints or nearby places (since it locks you out of both) so you have to try scrolling the map around to figure out where you need to go....and it doesn’t show waypoints on map. No real safety feature but a hazard instead (IMHO) especially when you consider all the other non-essential screens you CAN look at. Don’t have any desire to watch videos so wish a hack could be found for this pain alone. Does allow you to enter an address via voice while moving just not things like convention centers, airports, shopping centers, parks, etc. I bet in another year they will stop doing this when they realize it doesn't make much sense.

Quality of maps is not very good compared to Garmin. Few labels on streets at scale you use when on interstates. Has some route problems in SoCal area that remind me of Garmin maps about 4 years ago....same area and same bad routes.

Doesn't tell you it’s recalculating which I miss. I find it nice to know when my route has changed.

For all my gripes I still would have to buy nav system again since it is used a lot. Wish I had gotten the tech package for backup camera as well.

Don’t like the throttle that pivots from bottom. Have to keep your foot exactly right or it is really jerky especially when starting off. Its either nothing or vroom because my foot is too low. Gets uncomfortable driving and not being able to move my foot around. Consider this to be 2nd biggest problem (navigation being number 1).

Very firm seats (too firm for me) and very weird wipers (which I haven’t used much).

Poor cruise control sensors as its jerky when in hills. Haven't seen this since they first became available.

My local dealer hasn't managed to fix the wind noise in rear window after three tries so I gave up.

Still an OK car just needs some common sense refinements.
