I'm not disputing the merits of higher or lower gears. I am just making fun of those that are so concerned with their top end. If you have spent any time on a major freeway in a major city you will know what I mean.

You are right, I always get taller and shorter gears mixed up, since it goes against the increased"numbering". I meant a higher numerical final gear ratio ie 3.5->3.3

Lsst time I checked nobody was attempting a land speed record just attempting to have a technical discussion.

Sorry, just trying to have some fun. Just for giggles go try this... http://www.csgnetwork.com/speedcalc.html

One thing that needs to be taken into account is the engine. Yes a F.I. motor has the power to pull a high gear such as a 3.23. A basic N/A motor may actually go faster with a lower gear because it would allow the motor to pull higher in the RPM range in O.D.

As the above web site shows, yes a 3.55 rear gear and O.D. , I figured 0.68:1 6th gear, will do a theoretical 212 MPH. We all know aerodynamics and power will not allow that on a factory car.
