Are dealers dealing any more??

Hello,

Let me start by saying that you have a wonderful forum, very knowledgable and everyone seems to be courteous and helpful. Hopefully i'll have my own G that i can ask questions about soon .

Anyway, i've been looking around, calling dealers to see what i can get a '07 6MT with navi/premium for. I live in Ohio, near Columbus, and I've called all dealers in the area, one in Indianapolis and one in Chicago. They all refuse to sell the cars for much more than $1000-$1500 below MSRP. I keep reading about all of the deals that various users have gotten on here and am wondering if anyone has any insight or information on dealers around Ohio that will deal near invoice.

The dealer in Indianapolis told me that they don't really have a holdback on the G and that he wouldn't deal much below MSRP because he has to feed his 3 kids....that one hurt, heh.

I'd be willing to fly somewhere to pick up the vehicle, too. If any of you have any information, please PM me or reply.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I look forward to spending a lot of time on here in the future

Thanks,
Chuck

As you'll see in the pricing thread, there are many factors that contribute to a how much a dealer will shift on pricing. A lot depends on the particular model and the competition within the area.

Since there aren't as many 6MTs that are built/sold vs say the Journey or X, dealers generally don't deal as much since they can probably get the money from someone else. Also if there isnt much competition and the next Infiniti dealer is a considerable distance away then he has less incentive to give you a good price since chances are you wont go to a dealer further away.

Not sure how productive it is to deal with dealers over the phone. It's easier for the consumer who already knows what he/she wants, but it's not clear if calling over the phone versus being at the dealership itself helps or not in terms of negotiating price.

Infiniti's web site has a page where you can request quotes from dealers. I didn't try it personally, but I was surprised that folks mentioned (in some other thread a few months ago) that they were able to get a good price this way.

Edmunds also allows you to email multiple dealers in your area at the same time. In my experience, dealing with the internet sales manager is much more efficient than going in person and trying to haggle a price. I made the mistake of going to my local dealer in person and putting a refundable deposit down on a car that I was not 100% happy with the price (I actually got the same story about having to feed his family, ha). However, I then emailed the other three dealers who were all within 30 minutes of my house and they were all eager to do whatever it took to earn my business. I ended up with a quote $1000 below what I had previously gotten, and I simply called up the first dealer and told them that I wanted to buy from them, but I wasn't going to lose $1000 just to do so. They called back and said the best they could do was another $700 off, and I gave them a break because the other dealer was out of state and it was easier for me to deal with inspection and registration in state.

As someone else said, it all comes down to competition in the area and how willing you are to price around. The first dealer said they were actually surprised that I was offered such a low price because there really is no difficulty selling the G sedan in the area. As it turned out, the other dealer who offered me the best quote (2% above invoice) might have come down even further to earn my business, but at that point I was happy enough to stay with the closest dealer.

I actually sent an email to a dealer about 2 hours north of me. There are about 5 infiniti dealers not too far apart and right off the bat he said come in and i will cut $2000 off of the MSRP of any car on the lot. Of course i will be working him down some more but good luck on your search!

Thanks for the welcome messages! I feel at home already .

The final deal from the dealership in Indianapolis was knocking off the technology package from a $40,800 MSRP car...which as you know takes it to roughly 39,700. I told him this had more options than i wanted to pay, so he suggested the car with just premium for $36,xxx and said that was a good price and he couldn't discount it much. Yada yada...

I read a bunch of good reviews on Infiniti of Lisle (Chicago) and decided to give them a try. The operator connected me with a salesman named Jeff. Jeff was immediately eager to help me find exactly what i wanted and offered me a good price right off the bat when he pulled up his inventory. Without much question, i told him i wanted to be closer to invoice and he made it happen! I might have been able to squeeze a few more dollars out of him, but this was the easiest negotiation for a car i've ever had! Never once did i feel pressured, and he always seemed as if he wanted to accomodate my needs. He also worked with me fairly on my trade, as well.

I'll be driving from near Columbus tomorrow to Chicago to pick up my '07 6MT Platinum Graphite/Stone Premium/Nav/Spash Guard G.

I guess my trip back will be my first road trip with my new toy.

Thank you to everyone for your help!! Without you, i might not have been able to find the deal.

Chuck
