Navi Disappointment

Last night, I was in the kitchen making myself a tasty yet sensible snack and as I laid the VERY sharp 8" Santoku knife onto the cutting board, the weight of the handle caused it to slide toward me.
As it started to fall to the floor, I attempted to catch it like a complete friggen moron... in an attempt to save my toes.
What I ended up with is a gash in my right hand which was not too horribly long (few inches), but insanely deep.
Knowing I needed stiches, I immediately wrapped it the best I could and jumped into the G.

Now, I built my house in a new town 5 years ago, and although I have a pretty good idea where the hospital is, I had never been there before.
Bleeding, being night, and in a hurry, I thought the Navi would find my way to the hospital on the quickest route.
I went to hit Dest -> Hospital, and what I found was that "Hospital" was not an option.
I have options like Gas Station, Restaurant, ATM, etc... but no friggen hospital.

I was able to find it myself (eventually) but I was surprised by this shortcoming.

The Acura has it and although I never looked for it before in the G, I was surprised to not find it when I needed it.

How's your hand? How many stitches did you get?
Did you double-check your interior to clean any blood you may have dripped?

LOL.. I lived.
It's kinda funny actually. It only took about 10 stitches to patch me up.
By the time I found the hospital, most of the bleeding had stopped.
The doctor had to reopen the cut to clean it out... that part sucked.

Before leaving the house, I strapped on band-aids down the length of the cut, and then wrapped my hand in gauze and paper towels.
I REFUSED to bleed in my beloved G.

Even with all this trauma (lol), I still enjoyed every minute in my car during my ride home.
That has to say something about this car.

Still can't find Hospitals in my Navi though.

In the Acura, it's under "Emergency"
The Infiniti doesn't seem to offer that, which surprises me.

Sorry to hear that you were disappointed, however hospitals are definitely in the category list of places along with restaurants, shopping, banking, etc.

Btw, I hope everything is ok with your hand.

Well, I don't have the stock navi. I have an aftermarket AVIC-D3. I'm gonna' go check my navi to see if I have pre-set emergency destinations.

I just went down to the garage and took this shot.
If it's there, I'm not able to find it.
There's only 5 options, and nothing else to scroll through.

Anyone else able to find it in their's?

Ya know... now looking at this photo, I'll go back and try to customize the list like it says.
Maybe it has to be added and just isn't there by default.

Thanks Garnet... you're absolutely right.
It's an option that can be added.
My pic above shows the default list of 5, and Hospital is not one of the default settings.
I went into settings and found a list of 10 items to choose from, and you can choose any 5 for your list.

I added Hospital and removed Rest Stop.
I've seen "Something about Mary" so I don't ever want to attend one of those late night Rest Stop parties.

The next time I'm suffering from extreme blood loss (lol), it'll be easier to find!

I think this should be something we all do.
Hospital should be in that list.

All kinding aside, if there was ever a real emergency, it'd suck having to go through Settings, attempting to edit that list, just to get pointed in the right direction.

I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow if you want. I know it's there because I have seen it. Maybe there is a difference with the Canadian version......but I can't see Infiniti leaving that out for you guys in the US. FWIW, I can see libraries, police stations, court houses, schools, parks, and a bunch of others I can't remember.

Hahaha! Hopefully you won't need to rush to the hospital again, however I am glad you found it just in case.

Learn something new every day! I went into nav settings and substituted "Hospital" for "Rest Area" then went to Destinations and Nearby Places and chose Hospital. All the Urgent Care centers were then displayed along with a local hospital. Cool!

We're not dissing the Navi.
I asked a question and it was answered... nothing more.
It's actually a good thread, IMO.
We should all learn from this and modify the default list

I agree that the Navi in the G is great.
Visually, maybe the best.
But functionally... not sure.
Again, not a diss, but I can input a phone number in my MDX and get the destination as well, but with the MDX... I can do that, and ANYTHING else, while driving.
That cannot be said about the G.

I think you may have just scanned this thread and you didn't really read it.
If you had, you would realize that this was not a Navi bashing session, but a question answered and a lesson learned.

I never knew you could modify that list either...thats pretty cool and something im gonna do today.

As far as the G's navi being great, i def agree its one of the best nav systems out there. The acura that you mentioned though also has a great nav...Ive heard really good things about acuras navs as well. Germen (yes germen not garmen lol) on the other hand I dont think are too great.
