So far so good, wrapped the invisicord around a snap on ferrite choke and had no laser alert on startup today. We'll see, but that might be the culprit.

If it works I would like to know what a ferrite choke is and where to get one and how it goes on the invisicord. I can live with not fixing it, since the laser alarm does eventually go off, but it would be great to have it fixed. I still don't know why it only occurs when it is dark and what the connection would be between the invisicord and the nav display screeen. I guess something electrical.

You can get a ferrite choke at radio shack, but I am not sure it is solving my problem. No false alerts for a day, but last night it happened again. I'll keep posting about it as my observations continue.

It is possible that the choke diameter is too big for the invisicord wire. The one I have is a snap-on type off of an old printer cable. Obviously, the printer cable diameter is huge compared to the invisicord.

If it keeps up, I am going to send the unit back to escort for a calibration since other users here are not seeing the issue.

I have the 8500, smart cord and mikes mount. No problems what so ever.

Weeks after first posting this I just figured out that if the radar detector is turned off when I start the car (in the dark) and then I turn it on after the display screen is on, no laser alarm goes off. So I just remember to turn it off, or turn it off and then back on and everything is fine.

solution

i had the SAME problem with the 9500i. I called Escort and told them about it and they were aware of the issue. THey custom configured a 9500i for me at no added cost and now the thing works like a charm!!!

Certain LED billboards trip the laser on my V1... might be similar.

I have the same issue. I turned off the laser detection on the 8500 and all problems went away. it is not like you really need it anyway unless you have a laser scrambler or something. from what i understand once the detector picks up the laser it is already too late. plus here in TX the only laser signals I get are from airports. most cops are sticking with the ka band

I just switched from an 8500 X50 to an Escort 9500I and now I have the same problem you were talking about. The Laser alert goes off when I start my car in the garage. This never happened with my 8500.

I was wondering why this was happening as well.

I have a G35X with just the premium package. No ICC. Bought a Bel 955 recently and have experienced the similar false laser signals. Turning the unit off and on each time helps reset it and works fine but annoying.
Is it possible that the lasers (normally for ICC) are on all G35 vehicles and the option to have it depends on whether a software is available to make it functional?

The module with the laser emitter is not in the vehicle if you don't have ICC... pretty easy to tell if your bumper has that square contraption in it.

My guess is it could be a problem with dirty 12v to the device... are you using an invisicord or something? I've heard of people having false laser hits when they switch from the standard power adapter, or that adding a ferrite core into the mix will fix this.

I'd go check at radardetector.net, but be careful... they hate Infiniti over there, since ICC creates so many problems for people OTHER than you.

just disable the laser. That easy. I do not think it is because of the dirty 12v otherwise it would have more problems than just a false laser. It is most likely due to the frequencies given off by the display. But then again I am no expert. Disabled the laser feature and it works awesome now, no annoying alerts anymore. And when I pass the airport it does not go crazy anymore either.

Hold on, you don't mean disable the laser alert on the radar detector, do you?
