laser detector triggered by nav/status display

I recently installed a Passport 8500 under the rear view mirror with invisicord and Mike's Mount. Whenever I start the car in a dark garage or at night the laser detector goes off and stays on, sometimes for awhile. I finally noticed it was related to the navigation/status display screen. When I turn the screen off (total black) it goes off. When I turn it back on, on goes the laserr alarm. Anyone else notice this problem?

I have a V1 with no issues... I have heard if you have the laser cruise control, then that sets it off too.

Wow, it is getting crazy. All these new toys just interfer each other. Sorry to hear that BTW. Have you tried different location for the radar?

I remember seeing plenty of threads of ICC messing with radar detectors and giving false alarms. I don't remember seeing anything related to the screen itself being on though...

Weird.

But the more I hear about it the happier I am that I didn't get the Tech Package.

In my case, the ICC does not trigger my laser detector -- its most definitely the display screen itself that triggers it (even when I "off" the display its not truly off)

As long as my detector is mounted normally (close to the windshield) its ok -- no false laser alarms.

EDIT: Same thing used to happen in my friend's Lexus SUV - the display gives a laser alert.

I have a passport 8500 also in my 07 g35x, no nav.

But the same thing happened to me the other day when i took the passport down for a sec to re-adjust, the laser signal went crazy when pointed at the dash...more specifically the lcd screen.

The passport is probably detecting the light off the lcd or something of that nature shrug.

V1 here with no such problems. Only thing I notice is an unusually high number of laser warnings but we discussed that to death already with the whole ICC and tech package issues.

I have nav and ICC, and don't have a problem with my 8500. I mount the 8500 on the windshield.

Precisely what happens in my case -- if you point it at the LCD screen, it triggers the laser warning.

Mounted normally, the LCD does NOT interfere with it -- so its not bothersome at all.

Well that's weird... maybe something going on with the IR filter on the detector itself? I doubt there's some kind of crazy IR or laser light coming from the screen obviously, so my money would be on the detector itself.

Gotta try it with my Escort when I get in the car...

wasn't there a thread with someone having the same problems, but with his wipers? sounds like these things are very susceptible to em interference (i imagine they have to be pretty sensitive to work in the first place).

Lots of these issues pop up on the forum at radardetector.net

Most likely cause is electrical noise. I rarely had the issue with the supplied smart-cord, but the issue happens all the time with the invisicord. I may try a ferrite core to see if that helps.
