Rear end clunk noise
Rear end clunk noise
I'm wondering if anyone else has heard this...
If I'm going 25 mph down a bumpy road, there is a metalic clunking noise coming from the back end.
It cannot be heard when the windows are up, and if they are down, it can only be heard with the radio and A/C off, and you have to listen VERY carefully... but it's there and driving me nuts.
If the rear right wheel hits a bump, the noise comes from that corner.
The the left rear wheel hits the bump, it comes from that corner.
What the heck is it?
Exhaust hangers maybe?
I've gotten under there and found absolutely nothing obvious.
I'd hate to think that it sounds like a POS going by when I pass people walking down the sidewalk on a bumpy road.
Thoughts?

OK. I experienced something like this yesterday. I was driving my brand new G with both driver's side windows rolled down for the first time. I heard a moderately lousd clinking sound. Kinda like an aluminum can was rattling on metal. The sound was coming from the back. I didn't think it was the car and I assumed it was probably my son's child safety seat belt rattling around or something due to the wind buffeting the car. So, I rolled the windows up and the sound completely went away.
I didn't think anything of it until I read your post. So, I took my kid's seat out of the car and tried the same thing again (driving w/ both driver's side windows down) and this time, I heard absolutely nothing.
So, in short, I'm not sure if it was the child seat belt or something else. It really startled me initially b/c the noise was moderately loud - like something was banging against metal on the car. But, I'm not worried about it now b/c I can't seen to replicate it.

Had somthing like that on my 97 Integra GSR. I had put aftermarket rear sway bars on it when it was new. I started hearing a "clunk!" when I go over a bump or pot hole a couple years ago. The end-link had worn out and broke and the right side of the bar was hitting the chassis when I go over a bump. Fixed it with a new end-link.
Look under the car.

I'll have to have them test drive it @ the dealership when I go in for my new keyfobs.
I haven't gotten a call yet so I'll do it on the next oil change.
I'll keep yas posted.

I have heard something like this when Im backing up into my garage. Right as I clear a small concrete lip in my garage, I begin pushing in my clutch. Right about when the rear wheels hit the lip I can hear a clacking noise, somewhat like a can tumbling on the ground. The whole drivetrain for this car makes all kinds of unpleasant noises (manual at least).
I had my first experience with this today. Someone in this post said golf clubs in the trunk, and that's EXACTLY what it sounded like. But my clubs were in the garage. I got out and checked, and I had nothing dangling or dragging, nothing seemed odd, and my car is 100% empty of stuff right now. Of course I couldn't duplicate it. I'm hoping that it was something in the road or bad timing that I heard something in the neighborhood.
3 1/2 hours of hanging around the dealership.... they have found it to be a bad rear sway bar.
They have a new one on order and I have to go back in a few weeks to have it installed.
We'll see if that does it.
