Buzzing noise from drivetrain from 1600rpm and down

I've had this peculiar noise since I've owned the car. It is coming from the drivetrain area (engine/clutch/tranny) and it makes a sound like a buzzing.

It's brief, not loud, but easily audible. I imagine one might associate the noise with lugging the motor, but without knowing any better, could it be detonation, or just loose tolerance in the drivetrain? I don't often go that low in daily driving, however there are occasions when its necessary. The motor pulls smoothly from 1100 rpm on, just the noise that is concerning.

FYI, I have a 6 speed.

Thanks,
Chris

Hmmm -- don't think I've noticed it.
Does it only happen when you try to accelerate ? Or even when you are letting go of the gas ? Like you said, I almost never get that low - 2k and above all the time when moving.

Detonation/pinging won't sound like a buzz - it is different (metallic sounding)- also that will happen only when you accelerate and lug the engine under load. (But then again, maybe they did some sound proofing and make it sound like a buzz - I don't know !!)

Of course I am assuming that you are putting the right octane gas

Yes, only under acceleration. 93 octane/Shell.

Is anyone experiencing it or can you all try? Its easy to hear if the stereo is off.

Any specific speed+gear combo that shows this effect ?
(or) anything that puts your rpm at around 1500 is good to reproduce this ?

Give me a specific scenario and I'll see later this afternoon and see what comes

Sorry, I didn't get my automatic update...

3rd and 4th are easiest to hear the noise in. Let it hang around 1000 rpm and go up.

5th and 6th the tire/wind washes out the noise in question.

Thanks,
Chris

It sounds more like a grinding noise to me. It is very audible and annoying if you ask me.

Negative - I tried over the weekend .....
dropped it down to 1k rpm in 4th and then reved it up (didn't floor it -- just normal acceleration) -- I could feel the obvious bucking of the car - but no weird griding noises or whatever.
I did hear the engine whine (that hollow bucking sound) - but nothing else.

Is the grinding noise exactly as I described it, or something else?

So when you say grinding - is it something like the noise when your clutch engage/disengage is off and the synchros grind ??
Confused because you said it was a "buzz" before !

Sorry I meant buzzing noise. The synchros are another issue all together.

I have this very issue on the drivers side of my automatic. It's a BUZZZZ at low rpm just off idle under a load. Taking my **** to the dealer (who claims they NEVER heard of such a thing) on Monday.

I have noticed this buzzing noise on a few occasions, doesn't happen all the time. When it does act up it's at low rpm when taking off from a stand still. Sounds like a heat shield in the exhast system is resonating.
