Tapped a truck...i'm an idiot.

So-

I was reaching over the passenger seat this morning on the way in to work to adjust the seat to get rid of that maddening seat rattle, and I tapped someone's trailer hitch.

The good news is that I was going about 1-2 mph, and the hitch hit the license plate, not the actual car. The plate and plate holder are a bit bent, but other than that no cosmetic damage.

HOWEVER, the brakes now seem really touchy, like they're half engaged all the time and the car is definitely not driving the same. Am I insane? What could this be?

But how would that explain the brake thing?

I think you're just insane. If you were really going 1-2 mph, that can't be enough to cause any damage other than purely cosmetic to your plate/holder.

That's what I'm thinking, but I guess I just needed someone else to say it. Thanks!

this is pretty funny.... unless u stepped on your parking brakes when that happened and drove with it on since, there's no way it'll affect your brakes.

hmm... where's the ICC located?

Assuming yours was not a rhetorical question (still not had my 3rd cup of coffee this morning !) -- ICC sensor is on the lower front bumper, driver side - off center away from where the license plate usually is.

actually I was seriously trying to help. I dont have ICC on my car and for him to have braking issues after getting hitting at the front license plate, I can only think of the ICC sensor screwing up.

Wouldn't the ICC have to be engaged for it to screw up anything?

I think the ICC sensor always transmits the laser in order to help with the preview braking feature (irrespective of whether we are using the cruise or not)

Added: Ah I think I got what you meant now ..... yeah the problem should be seen after the incident only if ICC is engaged (assuming its ICC - which I doubt )

OP --> take the car to the dealer and have them check it out - I wouldn't be very comfortable driving with a brake issue !

Did you damage his hitch?

But seriously, sorry to hear about your accident.

At any rate, you can tell if your fuel mileage drops significantly. If not, unless your brake pedal springs are loose, your pedal should not sitting half way down.
