Tough times around this area,

With ashes falling all over southern cal,

I have heard that ashes can be bad for a cars paint. .
anyone have any experience with this and any advice on
precautions?

I'm at 12kmiles
so once all settles I'm looking at changing
air filers/cabin filter for obvious reasons

As for ash, I've had a lot on it at times with previous fires - I'd say just hose it plenty before you wash it. Never had any problems with it harming the finish. I tend to have a good coat of wax at all times. I'm sure that helps.

i hear the news but how bad is it compared to other years? i say changing the filters are a must and im sure a nice wash after the ashes would be fine after the fires but ive never experienced this type of thing before so what do i know.....is everything around you alright at least (property and family)?

this happens once in a while over here in sflorida aswell....as soon as lightning hits the everglades fires go up and can last months at a time till they burn out on their own....thank god no one ever has to evacuate...but i still feel your pain. That ash in the air sux

i live right by the irvine fires... I dont think the ash alone can damage the paint. As mentioned earlier just rinse as much off before your next wash

I have lived in So Cal all my life, and ash has never effected any of my cars!
However, it does effect the insides. When I opened my door today, ash fell inside, and then smeared on the leather arm rest in the door and on the hard plastic near the window. This is a bit more frustrating, since I can see it while I drive. I am sure a damp cloth will clean it.

It is good advice to hose off the car before washing, just to get everything cleaned off.

I don't see why it'd harm it too much, you should be ok if you just hose it off as previously mentioned.

I watched the news last night and a reporter reported his house being burnt down on live TV...I couldn't imagine doing something like that. He was a little choked up but was pretty professional about it...about as professional one could be while talking about a burning house.

Here's a pic of my G taken yesterday morning. By today it looked twice as bad. Yesterday was like a nuclear winter-could hardly see the sun and ash was falling everywhere. The ash is very gritty. This morning the sky was much clearer so I washed the G, although some ash was still falling. I simply couldn't take it being that filthy and I could hardly see out the windows. Looks worse now, but not nearly as bad as before. We're pretty safe here in Oceanside, but lots of other folks are not so lucky. I'll probably wash it again tomorrow.

I know it's just a car, but I did spend a whole day washing and waxing it. What are you guys so mad about? I thought we were talking about cars?

Oh, and believe me, I do feel sorry for the families who lost their home and other members of their family. BTW, my brother's family from La Jolla just evac'd to my place in OC.
