Maybe some regions work better than others? It's based off your local DOT traffic monitoring system for traffic management. So if that sucks, well then the information XM receives will suck. In the minneapolis area it works flawless, it updates every 5 minutes or less and I'd say it's really accurate.

Well, there's been a handful of times where I've been on 494, or near the Lowry tunnel on 94, 394 to 94 interchange and a few other areas where it was pretty backed up but the nav traffic still reads green and flowing smoothly.

But generally speaking, I'm really happy with the XM traffic and the nav in general.

Yup, by no means a perfect system, but it works great most of the time. It works more than enough that I'd get it again if given the choice.

Does the Infiniti Nav display the ETA? I often use my Garmin even for places that I know where they are because I find the ETA to very accurate and useful.

yes it does, and it updates real-time and adjusts based on your average, so if you start hitting traffic it will slowly add time to your ETA.

The M's Navi system in 07 was DVD based and not HD based like the G. That might have something to do with it since DVD based systems are usually a little slower.

I have never compared detail of nav in an M compared to the G but I would imagine there are is also a few Gigs extra of detail on the HDD compared to what is offered on the DL-DVD of the M. Aside from the 9.3GB for music box, I don not recall anyone knowing the actual utilized space of remaining 20GB on HDD for nav.

the FX and M nav system vs the G is virtually the same with the exception of nav traffic.

Unless you live in Metro DC, ETA increases exponentially.

Also, the XM Live Traffic doesn't work too well around DC. But I'm surprised, when I first got it and tried using it during rush hour, I thought it'd just explode. It'll tell me whats backed up and the average speed but it has a lot of trouble finding viable alternative routes.

i think its more than enough that anyone will really use in detail. the M got rated lower probably because most people don't like to spend the time to use it like driver in the G

I've actually had great luck with alternate routes when I've been coming up on accidents FWIW - and the congestion re-routing has saved me on more than one occasion. I guess its just one of those things, it either really works on your route or it doesnt and two people that live in the same area could have a different response based on their commute.

NavTraffic is great if you live in an area that has the functionality. Check the XM site to see if it's fully supported in your area before you write it off as being bad.
