this is a quote from the article:

"The soundtrack during acceleration is better, too: a resonant exhaust note and the satisfying chunk of induction noise."

now can we all finally agree that the "blow-off valve" noise is the intake

What's interesting is that R&T was willing to toss the G35 into the ring with the 5 series BMW. I wrote a post some months back wondering why the comparison was always made between G-to-3 series and M-to-5 series when the G has the same horsepower as the 5 series. Most respondents said "that's just the way it is".

You want to compare the G-to-3, the G is a better deal. Compared to the 5, the G is blowout awesome.

Quarter mile: 13.8 > 14.5. No comparison.

This line is great too, I've always agreed...

"...with aluminum accents on the dash and door panels whose etched finish is supposed to emulate the multidirectional fibers in Washi, a handmade Japanese paper. Whatever."

Was this a MY07 or MY08 G35 they tested?

"The G35's biggest flaw is that it leaves the line a little too eagerly, and Infiniti says a fix for its light-switch throttle is in the works for 2008."

The two things that annoyed me when I tested the '07 G35 was the manual transmission and the "light-switch throttle"

It was an 07 model that was tested.

The magazine hacks, well, R&T at least, seems to be shifting from comparing the G to a 3 series (and ranting about the snob-mobile's refinement) to the 5 series. Did they finally realized that the G is a better all-arounder than the 3s?? Nah!! U.S. based magazines are way too bias.

gm bulid a nice V6--almost identical displacement and more power than the VQ.

I think one of the big reasons why the G is compared to both 3 and 5 series is because it's a genuine "tweener". Its size slots it right between both. I test drove both 335i and 535i before i bought my G35. I thought the 335i felt just a tiny bit smaller than the G on interior space whereas the 535i felt like it had much more interior room. I would think the G would be more comparable to the 3 series in terms of interior room, price, and poitioning in Infiniti's line up (smallest sedan in the lineup).

in terms of EPA size category, both the 5-series and G are midsize cars where the 3-series is a compact. That's probably one reason why they're being compared more often now.

Less power per displacement, and runs really harsh according to other reviews I've read. WITH Direct Injection too, which Inifiniti has been withholding from us. I assume DI will be part of thier next bump in performance/efficiency.

This is a really great observation. Call me stupid, but I have been thinking the problem with the "light-switch throttle" was just me being too much of a leadfoot. Is it possible that a fix for the the 2007 has been developed or is in the works?

I have had my car for about seven months now and I am really pleased with it. The "light-switch throttle" and the poor gas mileage are my two big complaints. If the "light-switch throttle" could be fixed, perhaps by a software update, that would be superb.
