That really sucks...
I don't think anyone is giving him "flak" about it. It's just that we've seen this happen time and time again here. Turning VDC off and testing the car's limits in the rain isn't the smartest thing to do IMO. Unfortunately the OP learned the hard way and wasn't hurt.....which is definitely the main thing.Originally Posted by G35Now!
Seriously? A guy buys a new G, turns off VDC so he can try the car's handling without it, and screws up - and the guys who unlike him have been fortunate enough to be forewarned by the forum, get to give him flak about it? That really sucks...

Shane, I think you're a cool guy so will gently disagree: Sarcastic comments like "I love these threads", and "glad you didn't kill anyone" absolutely imply that the OP screwed up and should have known better.Originally Posted by Garnet Canuck

sucks but could have been much worse. glad you are ok. but on the bright side you can get a body kit now...

I understand completely what you're saying. But I do think the OP should of known better. Like I said, I think that turning VDC off and testing the car's limits in the rain is an accident waiting to happen. After all, a 306HP RWD car can easily get away from you on slick conditions. I am just glad to hear he's alright. Originally Posted by G35Now!

take it easy on the guy! hes not asking you to lecture him on his accident. . .I'm sure the guy feels horrible enough . . .and had learned some
sort of lesson . . .
so to what you were asking. . .I'd guess its a 800 dollar job, new bumper and cost to spray it, this comes from experience I had mine done with the grille needing replacement too(~250 bucks)
unless as others have said theirs other damage behind the bumper. . .

Apparently the how generated more interest than the what. Which is to be expected I suppose. This was not intended to be a "VDC off crashed" thread, just thought I'd head off the question before it was inevitably asked. A few more questions:
808Mike, you estimated $700-$900 to fix? Is that an all in estimate (labor, parts etc.)? Anyone know what I'd pay over this for a custom front? If it's not too much more I may as well go custom. And finally, anyone think the $200-$400 spread is worth not having to file a claim?
P.S. This forum is great.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear/see that.
Well...now you know a little more about what your G can and can't do with VDC off.
Glad you not hurt and no one else involved.
Live n learn
I'm not even going to mention what I do with my VDC when I plan on spirited driving.

Can't help you on costs, but with that in mind, whats worse...out of pocket expense or 500 deduct + rates up for three years?

cheapest way is obviously if you can do things yourself, (labor cost)
as far as what to do, it depends on
- how much you're going to pay for the bumper
- aftermarket (right now selection is few and far in between for aftermarket stuff... like japanparts.com (which I don't think they have anything for a front bumper besides the lower lip add on)
- or stock (depends on the dealer, some will rape you more than others)
- cost of labor (either going to dealer, or taking the bumper to some paint shop, and if you're going to disassemble/assemble it yourself)
- your insurance, do you have good insurance, can they estimate the cost of the rate increase once you figure out how much the whole thing would cost
then I'd see if it's worth it... it's still $500 deductible, out of your pocket...
(lazy way is just take it to the dealer and tell them to do everything, they'd quote you some price, it's probably going to be alot, so you'd probably want to file a claim)

Shane, i have been through the same exact situation about 2 years ago. It sucks a$$, in my case my emotions got out of control when i hit the curb (I was really mad at somone). Every chance i get when it rains i go to a empty parking lot with no cars and people and send the car into a slide to see how it reacts. I have been doing this since 18 years old and recently some chick in his SUV almost side swiped my going over 100mph, (i was doing about 70-75). If i paniced, i would crash into atleast 3 cars and god knows how many cars would crash in to us. This bitch send me to slide at 70mph. I managed to hold the car in one lane and continue on. A freind behind me squized the sturbucks cup in his hands and did not even notice it after he saw what happened. The whole thing took less than 10 seconds. But in those 10 seconds, if i did not have the experience a lot of people on the freeway would have been injured because of that stupid bitch.
So it is good to know the limits of the car, in daily driving u might not need it at all, but in my case i needed it, and NOT because of me, but because of that young female that is going to die someday.
BTW this was all with VDC off.

I applaud OP for admitting out of the box that he screwed up and should have known better. This was dumb, but I've done dumber things in my life so in no position to judge. I am an idiot too.
Glad you're ok, glad no one else was hurt. Pain in the wallet beats pain in any body part. I know nothing about estimates, but with labor I can't imagine it being much less than $1500. DIY much cheaper of course.

Hey, it happens. Everyone has that "what happens I touch this button?" thought every once in a while. Now you know, lol
Just glad that you weren't hurt.
