HOw much of a performance increase 07 over 06 G? seat of pants@measured? buying G35x

I'm in the process of buying a G35x and I wanted to hear from those who have owned both, or have at least had some significant time driving both.

How much better does the 07 perform over the 06 G35?

How much of a "seat of the pants" improvement is there in performance?
How much of a an actual measured improvement is there in performance?

It "seems" that the improvements are mainly in the interior and appearance.
The torque and weight numbers are very close between both models.

Amount paid VS. performance seen is a HUGE concern of mine.

haha... man.... everything seems to be a huge concern of yours. This is like thread #5 on buying a car.

There is a huge difference between the 2 motors. A full bolt on '06 and older sedan miiiight make 260whp w/ a ton of bolt ons... while the '07+ makes that power stock.

With the new G35 power/styling, there is no way I could drive both and buy the older version.

I never owned an 06, but two weeks ago I took my 07 to the dealership for some work and the only loaner they had was an 06. This is the second time I've driven the older model, only totallying about 4 days overall. But let me tell you...its not even close. I loved the 06 when it first came out strictly from street view, but the 07 is in a whole new ballgame. Power, speed, quickness, styling, luxury, the whole thing. I will always like the 06 for being the first hot Infiniti and changing up the game a little, but would never buy one over the newer generation.

I drove a 04 G35 Sedan 6 SPD. I like that car a lot. If you want a quick/fast go with the 07. Good luck.

Unless the 06 is WAY better than the 07 (and it's definitely not), you'll regret getting the older generation after a few years. Even after the 3rd gen G comes out, the 2nd gen (07) will still be considered a recent model, whereas the 1st gen (06) will be another old car on the street.

I actually use to own an '06 G35c. The '07 G35 sedan is much faster than my coupe and I think it handles better too.

Don't get me wrong the G35c was a GREAT car, one of my favorites, but the new G is definately faster.

Also, I believe '07 was the year the correct (official) SAE horsepower numbers were instated. Up until then, car companies didn't have a unified way of measuring horsepower and they could massage the numbers to fit their marketing strategy.

So I believe my '06 was rated at 287hp realistically it could have been more like 270hp - the '07+ are 306hp SAE.

Plus (with the auto) the 07 is geared 10% steeper, which adds to the difference in acceleration and seat of the pants feel.

I drove an 06 and 07 (both auto) back to back. It felt like a 50hp difference between the two. (instead of just 26)

I had a 06x for a loaner while I was having an oil change. Honestly, When they pulled it out front, I just hopped in it and drove away. Then I thought, what model is this? My guess was a 03 M35 or something. It seemed light on it's feet, like an accord, but there was no thrust. And the interior was aged with a touch of weird. I would have never bought that car.

the newer HR engine is better than the older DE, (there are a few threads on it, the HR has a better flowing head and it doesn't have that wacky need for plenum spacers compared to the DE)
the MSRP didn't really change that much either between the 2 generation models,
the newer G is just pure hawtness, just look at it, haha

if you were to pick up an 8 ball, it'll say, "all signs point towards getting the newer car"

Neither one are really that fast in the scheme of things. Anything under 270whp in a 3400lbs car isn't going to be that fast or at least enough to make a difference to me. Just get whichever you like and go turbo or sc down the road to throw your head back against the seat.

When I say fast, I am talking about Factory fast N/A. Of course they are not a competition to Ferrari or Atom car. They are fast car out of the factory. You can make it faster by doing a FI. If you think about it for a heavy car like G35 14 second flat quarter mile (na) it is pretty fast and this is a all wheel drive car.

I'd say mid/high 13's at over 100mph is pretty damn quick.

I agree if you drive 2007+ you won't buy a 2006 unless price is the factor.
