KBB: an 05 G35 coupe worth more than my '07 sedan?

Just for kicks, my friend and I looked up our Kelley Blue Book used vehicle values. He has a 2005 G35 6MT coupe, fully loaded (nav, spoiler, 19" wheels). Under "Excellent" (which it is), the car is worth $30k. He has just over 30k miles on it.

I looked up my 2007 6MT sedan, with Premium and Nav, with almost 13k miles (getting my third oil change tomorrow). Guess what my KBB trade-in value was? $29k!!! It's only $1k more than my friend's '05 TL auto. How can that be? I changed my transmission to a 5AT, and the value went up less than $200.

So in one year, the value of my car dropped over $6000. Granted, I did buy the very first shipment of 07s over a year ago, so I paid well over invoice. But still!

Unlikely that your friends two-year-old coupe is worth more than your '07 sedan; did he look up retail or private party, while you looked up trade-in?

And welcome to the concept of buying a brand-new car. Turn the key, drive off the lot, write a check for several thousand... Still, it's a COOL new car

EDIT:>>> I ran the numbers on KBB out of boredom; based on your description, I get $25k-ish at Trade-in for the coupe, and only go over $30k at Retail.

Everyone knows once you drive the car off the lot you lose ~3k in value
so the above sounds right, I think 3k is worth being the first and
only owner of my car.

I'm just surprised the '05 coupe is holding its value up so well, even though it has 30k miles, is almost 3 years old, and the G37 is already out.

I just checked an '07 (no '08 option yet) with 2,500 miles and my options and I'm almost exactly even. (minus sales/property tax ~3200)

As far as it not being worth much more then a TL, dont be suprised as Acuras hold there value really well. As far as with your friends coupe, something is wrong there, because that doesnt add up one bit. Trust me your friend will never get 30k for that car if he tries to trade it in.

30000 is extremely high mileage for any '07, that would make it worth much less, imagine a dealer trying to sell a one year old car with 30k, I wouldn't touch a car like that! 30k on an '05 is better, it's 3 years old! Besides, just enjoy your G (or any car) and don't worry about resale, cars depreciate, period! Besides, KBB is BS, what they give for trade values, I see cars on dealer lots selling for those prices!

True - however, the OP said this: "I looked up my 2007 6MT sedan, with Premium and Nav, with almost 13k miles (getting my third oil change tomorrow)."

The '05 Coupe had 30k miles.

30G for an 05 coupe? Yah right.

30 months ago, I bought that EXACT used car with only 330 miles for 33G from an Infiniti dealer!

This past July, I traded it with 46K miles for only 22G and that was AFTER the first dealer offered me 18G! The G isn't a classic car.

I just blue booked that exact car mentioned above with 30K miles and trade-in is 25G. Dealers won't give top dollar, ESPECIAL an Infiniti dealer, that's for sure.

Not sure if this link will work...

KBB 05 6MT Coupe 30K miles

As for the 05 TL, being 28K? Uh my wifes loaded 06 TL is worth 25K. And it shows, it's a POS (a.k.a Accord). Haha.
