i had the same thoughts as u do. the last car i exchanged bulbs in was not bright at all, and most times never used the map lights because i couldnt see much of anything. however, by using the 12led light bulb, i would say just as bright as the OEM bulbs. i love it.
also these bulbs do last pretty long. i still have my last car, and all the bulbs never went out, or have any problems.

depending what kind of led u want...meaning how many leds in one bulb, u can search around. but the ones i chose were the
Wled 4led bulb, first one at the top of the page.
921 x12led bulb, fourth one down the page.
and u can find the WLED 1led bulb and PAGE 1, last one on the bottom. hope that helps

Looks good luckyone! I'm interested in doing this as well, but I had a couple of questions. Could you use the 12LED bulbs for each of the lights you changed if you wanted to maximize brightness? It sounds like you good. If so, would this upset the lighting balance (to the extent such a thing exists), or is there any other reason not to use 12LED bulbs throughout? thanks again for posting the helpful info!

 

i hear that PIAA bulbs are also good.

 

if u wanted your cabin to be as bright as day during nightfall, then be my guess. but let me tell u, these 12led bulbs are BRIGHT. i think having four of the 12led bulbs inside your car would be extremely bright. (((keeping in mind that i use WHITE led bulbs, cant say much about other color bulbs)))

also, the bulb itself is kinda big, i dont know if it will fit in the rear passenger lights and the door lights. its perfect for the map lights. plus, one 12led bulb is something like $6 a bulb.

I just tried taking pictures with the red lights and my camera is erasing the red color as it thinks its red eye in the picture. I tried turning the option off but it still erases the red color completely. still looks awsome in person. Ill see if theres any way to get around this feature when my girl gets home from work.

 

I did this upgrade 6 to 9 months ago. These bulb are not quite as bright at the original yellowish bulbs but they look cool. As for installing them, for those of you have an ounce of do-it-yourself skills this is a very easy one. It's as easy as I don't know " screwing in a light bulb", only these don't screw in. Read the owner manual and use some care, a butter knife also comes in handy - but they are a snap. I did all of them in about 10 minutes.

Just a bit of advice, do this during the day so you don't need the added light. The factory bulbs get VERY hot when lit!!! Don't say I did not warn you

How do you figure 6? I'm going for the same setup as you and I count 8.

2 for each front door
2 for each rear light.
2 for each map
2 for license plate

I'm debating on going 5LED vs. 1LED for the door panels. Yours look very bright for 1LED, as someone's in that other post had 5 and it looked identical. I dont want it to be too dim.

 

i got the 1LED's and put them in all the locations (map, door, back, license) and ended up thinking they were WAY to dim and ordered the 5LEDs afterwards. the 1LEDs also casted half-circle shadows on the light housings which I didn't like. very happy with the 5LEDs.

i also changed out the side markers in my headlights and put in some ultrabright white LEDs from frickinbrite.com and they look great.

What's the easiest way to open the covers to swap out the bulbs?

 

Check page 8-27 through 8-28 in the manual for the front and rear map lights

for the courtesy step lights in the door, you basically do the same thing. Just instert the tool you used for the map lights into the gap between the step lamp and door trim.
