LOL...

j00 guyz are mean!

But I had a real good laugh. That some good stuff, there, worthy of a sticky, even. Okay, maybe not...

I honestly thought he was asking ab00t the pros and cons of manual tranny over the 'sport shift' automatics.

Are we sure he didn't mean that? Hmmm...

LOL. Just me makin' sure.

Okay, I have a serious question related, in some fashion, to this...

Was having my service done today and got a loaner automatic G35 instead of my 6MT. At the top-left (driver's side, nearest the dash) portion of the auto-gear selector, in the chrome trim, there is, what appears to be, a button. I didn't get close enough to read it if it had text on it, but I was wonder what the heck it was? It didn't seem to "push" / "click" / otherwise give any "button-like" feedback. I didn't think to take a photo of it, but seeing this thread made me curious.

So, automatic owners... what is it?

Mean, yes. Funny....um, no.

This might be hard to comprehend for some of you gearheads; but not everyone that drives/owns a vehicle instinctively knows everything about them. He could have saved himself the shame by looking in the owner's manual but instead asked a simple question that could have been solved in one post. If he's serious, then answer the question and be done. If he's looking for attention, you guys have certainly given it to him.

Now that the OP question has been answered, let's move on to more important stuff......

adamr001, I test drove an AT today and asked the salesman about that button. He said it was used to release the coverplate for maintenance.

Not really - it's the cover for the slot you use if the car has no power. Pop it out, and you can put in a shaft (think the key usually works, but am not positive) that allows you to then shift the car out of Park into Neutral, thereby allowing towing.
