Quarter Panel

My G35 was in an accident. It has been at the body shop for 2 week now and I get a call today saying that the quater panel is on back order from Japan for 2-3 weeks. They say that when they do get it in it will be another 10 days.

Should I wait for the new quarter panel or get them to fix the one that was damaged? They assured me it will be perfect.

If it cost less and they give you written warranty on it go for it.

I would like to wait but don't really want to be without my G for an extra month. They guarantee all repairs for life.

there is only so much they can knock the metal out. after that its all minor filing and putty. putty doesn't resist shock and flex as well as metal though. i think its better to wait then have a crack later on. do u have rental insurance? if its not your fault u can just call up the other insurance and ask for rental with your claim # and direct bill to them.

There was almost no damage though. I was unsure as to why they were replacing it. It was basically a few scrapes. I wish I took pictures now for everyone.

I think I would wait if possible for new sheet metal. Ater all, why would the shop recommend that appraoach in the first place?

I work in a body shop and id rather have a little bondo on my quarter panel then rip it off and weld on a new one.

I am gonna agree ^ to replace a quarter panel is a heft job when a lot can go worng so if the shop is not fimiular or doesn't do that often then no way should they touch it. I would sugest a pin welder to pull out 95% then a skim of bondo

There may be little damage, but the shops first response was to replace it. Now that it's backordered, they're saying they can repair what's there.

If the initial thought was to replace it, then wait.
Get a rental and have it done right the first time!!!!!

Just keep in mind... most of the insurance rental runs only for 30 days...

My quarter panel was also dented in pretty badly when I had an accident around April last year along with the rear door, but my body shop fixed it flawlessly. Also, it only took them about 10 days total.

interesting, in MN, state law requires insurance companies to cover loss of use. If the car is not totalled, this will continue until the insurance company decides to total it out, assuming the shop isn't just screwing around.

Otherwise, I'd wait for the fix. My car was out of service for over 2 months after my accident and it sucked, but I'd rather things be done right. Fortunately, all my damage was internal. No body work at all.

hmm... if its just scrapes and no dents, it should just be a simple repaint job. Either they are looking to get more money from the insurance for a simple job, or they made added damage to your car and needed to fix it. shady...
